Larry Eugene Spears,76, of Prichard, WV., passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 at his residence. He was born November 10, 1948 in Prichard, a son of the late Clarence and Ada Persinger Spears. Larry was a veteran having served as a First Sargent in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Kenova Masonic Lodge AF & AM #110 and the American Legion Post #93. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by eleven siblings. Survivors include daughters Candy Nail (Mike), Ada Michelle Christian (Frank), Lisa Flynn (Shawn) and Karry Spears; adopted son Dakota Spears; grandchildren Christian, Alexandra, Zane, Zoe, Cory, Jason, Brandon, Jennifer, Mason, Kendall and great-grandchild Saylor. Margaret Ruby Lyons Burgess
Margaret Ruby Lyons Burgess, 79, of Kenova, WV. passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Darin Fetherolf officiating. Interment will follow in the Blair Cemetery. She was born November 23, 1945 in Huntington a daughter of the late Louis William and Margarette Lett Lyons. She was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School and retired from the Wayne County Board of Education. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband James D. “Sonny” Burgess and two brothers Richard Lyons and Johnny Lyons. She is survived by two sons Timmy Burgess (Annie) and Jason Burgess and one daughter Pam Burgess Plymale; six grandchildren Brooke, Jayden, Nathan (Kaitlin), Sammy, Dane and Landon; one great-grandchild Campbell. Danny Joe Pelfrey
Danny Joe Pelfrey, 75, of Ceredo, WV. met his savior Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 25, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Kenova, of which he was a member with Pastor Dave Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. He was born August 8, 1949 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Thomas Carson and Kathleen Archer Pelfrey. First and foremost, Danny loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also a loving dog dad to Max. He was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Danny was a Deacon and Shepherd and served on numerous committees at the church. He was instrumental in forming the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Ceredo-Kenova High School. Danny was a member and Past President of the Tri-State Airport Authority Board and a member of the Lawrence County Airport Board. He was a member of The Big Green Club and big supporter of the Marshall women’s basketball program. Danny was employed with Marathon Petroleum and was a member of the Fire and Rescue Unit. The American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard will administer graveside military rites. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Lou Cremeans Pelfrey; two sisters Nancy Pelfrey and Billie Rose Pelfrey and a brother Thomas Earl Pelfrey. Survivors include his wife Shea Davis Ashworth Pelfrey; daughter and son-in-law Tara Spears (Sam); son and daughter-in-law Brad Pelfrey (Rebecca); sister Katherine Pelfrey Johnson; 2 brothers Jim Pelfrey (Faye); George Pelfrey (Nora); grandchildren Bethany Lubrano (Nick); Baylee Wood (Tyler); Dylan Spears (Kara); Aubrey and Quinn Pelfrey; great-grandchild Scarlett Wood; sons Chris Ashworth (Melissa) and Richard Ashworth (Chrysan) and grandchildren Chloe, Nathan, Michael and Patrick. Patty Lou Fuller Nottingham, 75, of Ceredo, WV. passed away Friday, January 17, 2025 at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born December 14, 1949 in Wayne Co., WV a daughter of the late Robert D. and Dorothy Katherine Vanmeter Fuller. She was a retired Paralegal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Michael Todd Saunders; brother Paul Fuller and two sisters Betty Michaels and Mary Katherine Fuller; special stepmother Gladys Insco Fuller. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law April Jackson (Randy); two sons and a daughter-in-law Jeffrey Saunders and Kenneth Saunders (Jennifer); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Bobby Fuller (Linda); several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Brian Matthew Knowles
Brian Matthew Knowles, 42, of Barboursville, WV, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, after a brief illness. Brian was one of the good guys, a helper who was eager to volunteer and lend a hand; he was a kind soul and a proverbial gentle giant. He was born in Huntington, WV., on July 24, 1982, the son of the late Mickey Ray and Karen Plymale Knowles. Brian was a Production Associate with Heiner’s Bakery in Huntington, WV, and a member of Transformation Community Church also in Huntington, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncles and aunt, Drs. Durwood and Julie Knowles of Webb, AL, Jerry Knowles of Columbia, AL; cousins Michael Plymale of Aurora, CO, Dan Knowles of Donaldsonville, GA; and his special dog Cooper. Survivors include his brother, Kevin Knowles and his partner Matthew McMillion of Lavalette, WV; his beloved fiancé, Jessica Pauley of Barboursville, WV, his fiancé’s children, Taylor Wiley, Owen Pauley, and Jax Pauley, his fiancé’s sisters, Shawna Massie of Huntington, WV, and Erica Ingram (Brad) of Huntington, WV and their families; his aunts and uncles, Rick and Susan Plymale of Huntington, WV, Linda and James Sims of Columbia, AL, and Bill and Diana Knowles of Graceville, FL; and first cousins Mark (Tessia) Plymale of Stanton, KY, Andrea (Brian) Gohmann of Louisville, KY, Christina (Chad) Andrews of Knoxville, TN, and Amanda (Doug) Cochran of Darrington, WA, and many other cousins. Brian is also survived by his best friends, Dana Adkins and Lisa Roberts, his church family, and a host off riends. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Transformation Community Church in Huntington, WV. He was born April 28, 1948 in Huntington, WV. a son of the late Burgess and Trudy Jones Stevens. She was born March 7, 1952 in Galion, Ohio a daughter of the late Walter H. and Margaret L. McCalla Nelson. Shearl D. “Popeye” Galloway
Shearl D. “Popeye” Galloway, 93, of Kenova, WV. passed away Friday, January 10, 2025. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Kenova, of which he was a member with Pastor Dave Akers officiating. Shearl was born December 12, 1931 in Kenova, WV., son of the late Vernon and Faye Hatten Galloway. Popeye was a loving family man that met his love Jane and spent his life tending to her every need as well as his children. He was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School and Marshall University. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. During his business career, he worked as an accountant for Firestone in Africa for two years and held senior level financial positions with the Kroger Company and Novamont. He also served as controller for Cabell- Huntington Hospital prior to starting his own businesses, including ServiceMaster and Giovanni’s Pizza. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son David Galloway and siblings Edith Dial, Betty Honaker and Doris Rogers and brother-in-law Bob Rogers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jane Riffle Eastham Galloway; two daughters and a son-in-law Beckie McKinley and Pam (Dave) Akers; grandchildren Brad Akers (Breanne), Zach Akers (Amy), Cassidy Adkins (TJ), Whitney Buck (Ryan), Ali McKinley, Krystle Berry (Jamie) and Laney Murphy (Travis) and 30 great-grandchildren. Wanda Lee Davis
Wanda Lee Davis, 75, of Prichard, WV passed away January 7, 2025. Wanda was born November 5, 1949, to the late Christopher and Pauline (Maynard) Jarrell. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Cooper Allen LeMaster, and three brothers, William Jarrell, Boyd Jarrell, and Arthur Jarrell. Wanda is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ralph C. Davis. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Andrew (Rebecca) Davis, David (Rhonda) Davis, Christie (Robbie) Paynter, Jonathan Davis, and Zella Davis. Wanda is also survived by eleven grandchildren Tanesha (Cody) Wood, Zachary Davis, Stephanie Davis, Brandon (Ashton) Davis, Braxton Davis, Kallie Davis, Keeley Brooks, Joshua Davis, Jacob Davis, Sidney Paynter, and Logan Paynter, and five great-grandchildren, Emmalynn Wood, Wyatt Wood, Braxton Damron, Emma Davis, and Oliver Brooks. Wanda is also survived by her sisters Joyce Berry, Myrtie (JD) Prince, Patricia (Terry) Hartley Deborah Perry, and Eunice Dillon, and her brothers Chris (Barb) Jarrell, Leonard (Penny) Jarrell, Jennings (Charlene) Jarrell, and Bruce Jarrell. Visitation will be 12-1 PM, Friday, January 10, 2025, with services immediately following at 1 PM at Prichard Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastor Darrell Brewer officiating.
