Patricia Ann (“Pat”) Carlson, 77, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2022 in the comforting care of her family and the Doctors Hospital staff in Columbus, Ohio. A resident of Jackson, Ohio in recent years, she was born June 1, 1944 in Huntington, West Virginia to Everett and Frances Dean. After attending Huntington High School she later worked to earn her G.E.D. and completed a medical assistance program in Michigan.
On July 23, 1991 she was united in marriage with Frederick Carlson in Roseville, Michigan, and she was doted on and cared for by Fred every day of the next thirty years. They spent memorable years together there, especially enjoying times in Manistee, before relocating to West Virginia and then to southeast Ohio.
Pat was a hard worker from a young age, whether in the home or in her jobs. She dearly loved her family, her dogs, the great outdoors and wildlife, her games, her church families at World Outreach in Jackson and Jefferson Avenue in Huntington, and her roommate, friends and bingo buddies at Four Winds.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were her brother, James (“Jimmy”) Dean; her brother-in-law, Richard Napier; and her sister-in-law Marilyn Wright. In addition to her loving husband Fred, she is survived by her children, Teresa (William) Hay of Prichard, WV, Shirley Diann (Dale) Johnson of Kenova, WV, Michael (Beverly) Perry of Jackson, OH, Steve Perry of Lavalette, WV, and Sunday (Paul) Largent of Sterling Heights, MI; grandchildren Aaron, Paige, Dakota, Dale, Kristen, Brittany, Kasey, Brooke, Alexia, Ashley and Hayli; great-grandchildren Alyson, Brantley, Memphis, Jazzmyne, Quinn, Vivienne, Katelyn, Keegan, Colton, Caleb, Annabelle, Gidian, Conner, Claire, Seth, Thomas, Owen, Kaiya and Thiago; her sister Helen Napier; brother-in-law Richard Carlson; and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Bean Cemetery on Centerville Road in Prichard, West Virginia, and the family requests masks be worn for everyone’s safety. Rollins Funeral Home is assisting.


Emil Altos Epling, 83, of Ceredo, W.Va. Passed away on Monday January 31, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He was born February 9, 1938 in Wayne County, a son of the late, Oscar and Margaret Epling. He worked as a drywall installer for Belchers Drywall. He was a member of Christ Temple Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Milford Marie Crockett Epling and one brother, Oscar Epling, Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Danny) Copley and Loretta (Mark) Canup; three sons, Charles (Angie) Crockett, Lee (Patricia) Smith, and Terry (Teresa) Smith; two sisters, Arbutus Berry, and Blanche Adkins; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 at Docks Creek Cemetery. David Ronald Parsons,74, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1947 in Genoa, W.Va. a son of the late William David and Goldie Thompson Parsons. David was a former Maintenance Supervisor with Service Pump and Supply and was employed for 25 years with Pilgrim Glass. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Judy Teresa Holt Parsons and three brothers Nathan Thompson, Bobby Joe Thompson and Sam Parsons. Survivors include his beloved wife Jacqueline Lucas Parsons; two daughters Tammy Rena Parsons Cook and Jennifer Michelle Parsons; step-son Evan Adkins; Sister Loretta Linville (Cletis); granddaughter Shaina Rene’ Cook; grand-son Shane Tyler Cook; special nephew Kevin Kitts and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, family and neighbors. Freddie B. Crossen, Jr.,69, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Promedica of Riverview. He was born July 10, 1952 in Kenova, W.Va. a son of the late Freddie B. Crossen, Sr. and the late Bronwen Jean Carr Crossen. Survivors include his beloved wife Pamela Paulette Ferguson Crossen; son and daughter-in-law Brian L. Crossen (Ashley); daughter and son-in-law Amy L. Ferguson (Aron); grandchildren Riley, Kennedy, Tyler, Zachariah, Alex, Brady, Mackanzie, Makala, Jayden and Fleshia; two great-granddaughters Celeste and Sereninty and brother Gary Lee Crossen. A memorial service for friends and family will be conducted Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Kenova United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Maynard officiating. Phyllis Gaye Merritt Mahon, 78, of Kenova, W.Va. loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Monday January 10, 2022 at her home. She was born October 6, 1943 in Wayne, W.Va. a daughter of the late Thomas and Della Dyer Merritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, David and Craig Mahon and one sister, Irene Dyer. Phyllis had worked for Big Bear Grocery where she was the manager of the Sweet Shop. She also was a self employed house keeper who worked for many people who became her extended families. The family would like to express a special thanks to Larry and Cheryl Tweel for the kindness they showed to Phyllis. Cheryl, who became like a sister, spoke with Phyllis daily. Phyllis would go above and beyond to help her friends, coworkers and family. She loved her family, enjoyed spending time with them, and would do anything she could for them. She is survived by her husband, Hallie Mahon; her children, Sherri (Vincent) Blatt and Thomas (Tammy) Mahon. She was a loving Ninny to Tyler (Renee) Blatt; a loving Mamaw to Michael and Rachael Mahon, Natasha (Ricky) Passarelli, David (Jennifer) Chapman and Andrew (Cynthia) Chapman. She was a loving great grandmother to Braxton and Ariana Frazier and Grant and Ava Chapman; a sister, Wilda Jean Maynard; her very special nephews, Keith (Kim) Maynard, Jeff Maynard, Jarod (DeeAnn) Maynard and a host of special friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Park Circle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Jeffers officiating. PATRICIA KAY MACHIR of Louisa, Ky., passed away Monday, January 10, 2022. She was born December 8, 1943, a daughter of the late William Franklin and Violette Somerville Machir. Pat graduated from Point Pleasant High School and attended Huntington Junior College. She was retired from the Lawrence County Health Department where she was a smoking cessation counselor. Pat was recognized by the State of Kentucky for her work with the awareness of the dangers of tobacco and how important it was for her clients to understand the need for smoking cessation. Many who successfully completed the smoking cessation program would thank her for her help. She loved animals and had a great desire for rescuing them. She was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church where she started the Email Prayer Chain Ministry. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Carol Sue Patterson. She is survived by her son, Tim (Amanda) Knopp, daughters Michelle Pemberton, Trisha (Andy) Scott and grandchildren Jacynn Pemberton, Ryann Pemberton and Bill Walker Scott; sister Deborah Hickel (Mike Harlow); special friend and father of her children, Tom Knopp and a host of friends and church family. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Randy Maynard officiating at Kenova United Methodist Church, Kenova, W.Va.
