Gilkerson, Nellie M
Nellie Mae Hatten Dean Gilkerson, 79, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at her home. Nellie was born September 5, 1941 in Wayne County a daughter of the late Harvey Creed and Garnet Meredith Hatten. She was the owner of Giovani’s in Prichard, W.Va. In addition to her parents, Nellie was also preceded in death by her husbands, Glen Dean and Edward R. Gilkerson; one daughter, Susie Charles; one son, Gary Dean; and two grandchildren, Matt Charles and Amanda Fannin. Nellie is survived by two sons, Glendal Dean and Kevin Dean; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Cullie (Jonnie) Hatten; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Diana) Gilkerson and Ike Gilkerson, and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to, Hospice of Huntington; special caregivers, Darcy, Angie; her granddaughter, Samantha and nephew, Stacy. Velma G. (Pratt) Bowen, 96, of Kenova, WV, passed away on July 6, 2021, at Stonerise nursing home in Bridgeport, WV.
She was born December 30, 1924 in Kenova, WV to Garland and Hazel Ward Pratt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Bowen in 2000, her sister Jenny LeMaster, and brother Warren Pratt.
She is survived by her loving son James Darrell Bowen and wife Kay of Bridgeport, her loving, daughter Barbara J. Boren and her husband Doug of Charlotte, N.C. Surving also is her younger brother Buddy Pratt, Kenova, WV, grandchildren: Amy Brown(husband John), and Andrea Williams (husband Darren) of Morgantown, WV; Stephanie Smith, of Indian Trail, N.C., Melody Belcher, husband Jason of Mint Hill, N.C.; great grandchildren Justin, Drew and Kate Williams, Sophia and Sarah Brown, Tyler Webb, Audrey Smith, Owen and Mackenzie Belcher.
Velma was a 1942 graduate of C-K High School, and business college. She was Executive Secretary for The Huntington Hospital where she retired after 44 years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Kenova. She enjoyed family dinners, playing golf, cards with longtime friends, dancing, attending Marshall football games and visiting with friends at The American Legion.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Stonerise (formerly Meadowview Manor) in Bridgeport for their care and kindness.
Friends and family will be received at Rollins Funeral Home, 1822 Chestnut Street, Kenova, WV on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 from 12-2 pm. Funeral Service will held at 2 pm with Dr. Mike Hopkins officiating.
The internment will follow at Docks Creek Cemetery.

Mildred “Mickey” Rutherford Hardwick, 94, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away on Saturday July 3, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral arrangements are through Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova, W.Va., with visitation beginning Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral service conducted by Rev. Scott Byard. Burial ensuing at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Mickey was born March 29, 1927, in Sydney W.Va., a daughter of the late George B. and Ona Rutherford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four siblings and her husband of 50 years, Lace Vinson Hardwick, Sr. She is survived by her three children, Jeannie (Tim) Perry, Lace (Jamie) Hardwick, and Paula (Philip) Blatt. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Robert “Bobby” Rutherford, and sister-in-law, Lucy Rutherford. Six grandchildren; Timothy Perry, Jr., Matthew Vinson Perry, Brett (Amanda) Bocook, Blair (Kevin) Thomas, Barkley (Chad) Young, and Jacob (Sierra) Blatt. Nine great grandchildren; Haleigh (Mike Burrell) Perry, Daniel Perry, Addy Bocook, Ava Bocook, Simone Thomas, Myles Young, Graem Young, Harper Blatt, and Hazel Blatt. One great, great granddaughter, Linnea Grace Burrell. The family would like to express gratitude to all caregivers at Grayson Assisted Living, Dr. Winger, nurses and staff at Hospice, and to Phyllis Mahon, friend, and caregiver. Mother loved her children. She retired from Wayne County schools as a kindergarten aide. A long time member of First Baptist Church of Kenova. Her special gift from God was her love for little children, they always brightened her day. Our family and friends were always welcome at our home. Juanita Merritt Eskew, 86, of Kenova WV passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Juanita was born May 5, 1935, a daughter of the late Charles Albert & Lilly White Merritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Eskew; one sister and three brothers. She is survived by her son, Randy Eskew; grandson, Anthony Eskew and one daughter-in-law, Laura Eskew Adkins; one sister, Jane Skeens; three brothers, Dallas (Brenda) Merritt, Charles Merritt, Roy Dale (Sandy) Merritt and a host of other family and friends. Juanita was a member of First Baptist Church of Kenova. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. George “Nick” Kiser, 91, of Kenova, W.Va. passed Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 5, 2021 at the Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Pastor Willie May and Pastor Jody Fortner officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Nick was born February 10, 1930 in Hubball, W.Va. a son of the late George and May Pellman Kiser. He was retired from Columbia Gas where he was employed for 40 years. Nick loved to fish and never met a lake he didn’t enjoy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna Faye Kiser; son Melvin Dewayne Kiser; grandson Michael Dewayne Kiser; four brothers Willis, Harold, Doug and Billy Kiser; two sisters Joanette Hoover and Jennifer White and four sisters-in-law Maddie, Loretta, Lorene and Judy Kiser and a baby sister Mary Kiser. Theodosia H. Eddy “Dosia”, 90, of Barboursville, W.Va. passed Wednesday, June 23, 2021. She was born June 8, 1931 in Craig County, VA. a daughter of the late Hobert and Alma Patton Maynor. She was also preceded in death by her husband E. Blaine Eddy of almost 60 years; a son Jack and brothers Robert and Max Maynor. Survivors include her son Blaine Eddy (Gloria), daughters Sara Bosley and Nancy Bates (Joe); grandchildren Jackie Morning (Chris), Amanda Cremeans (Anthony), Meghan Bosley (Jason Walsh), Jennifer Eddy (Carl Ward); five great-grandchildren and one brother Dean Maynor and two sisters Sandra Riner and Cuba Flory. She was a long time member of the Kenova United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation and a private family service. Hamilton, John R (J.R.)
John Roy Hamilton (J.R.), 81, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away peacefully in Temple, TX. Thursday, June 17, 2021. He was born May 18, 1940 in Wayne County, W.Va. son of the late Thomas and Louise (Holland) Hamilton. He was a 1958 graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School. He was a member of Laborer’s International Union of North American, 543 Local Union, since 1966. His membership in the Buena Vista Lodge #60, in Prichard, W.Va. served as a guide and source of spiritual strength throughout his adult life. In 1965, John Roy married Verna Davis who preceded him in death in January of 2002. John Roy is survived by his son, John Timothy Hamilton, and Jaryn Hamilton, his grandson, of Kenova, W.Va.; Stephanie Hamilton, his daughter, Kevin Rapczynski, his-son-in-law, and Tiffany Hamilton Rapczynski, his granddaughter, of Belton, TX. and Barbara Lloyd, his youngest sister of Ceredo, W.Va. John Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Hamilton and his sister Sue Ann Fedczak. John Roy loved fishing and enjoyed sports throughout his life. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va., followed by a graveside service at 10:30 A.M. at the Riggs Family Cemetery off of Bridge Branch Road in Prichard, W.Va. Holland, John A
JOHN ALLEN HOLLAND, 77 of Ceredo, W.Va., closed his eyes in this world and his faith has become sight, as he is now with Jesus, on June 15, 2021, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was a beloved Husband, Daddy, PawPaw, Uncle and Friend.
Visitation will be Friday, June 18, 2021, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Brother Rick Wellman officiating. A private burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
John was born December 17, 1943, in Kenova, a son of the late Grace Roten Holland and Roy Holland Jr. He was also preceded in death by his uncle John Roten who had helped raise him and his bubby Bob Holland.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean Medley Holland; three daughters, Valerie Holland of Kenova, Tammie (Darren) Perdue of Saudi Arabia and Teresa (Ed) Stephens of Wayne; two grandchildren, Caroline Grace Perdue of Columbia, S.C., and Casey Perdue of Seattle, Wash. John is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra “Cookie” Evans and her husband Bo of Kenova; his niece Rhonda (Jeff) Mannon of Huntington; his nephew JT (Pam) Holland of Lavalette; great-nieces Jaci Mannon, Jordan (Travis) Nash and Lauren Holland; greatnephew Dylan Holland; great- great-nephews Evan, Liam and Cashtyn; greatgreat-niece Charley and his special friends, Dave and Sue Straley of Florida.
John was a member of the Church of Christ in Chesapeake, Ohio, where he was a minister and led numerous lives to the Lord. He was a graduate of CeredoKenova High School, Class of 1961. He retired from Chandler’s in 2005, working there more than 40 years. He was a member of the Kenova Masonic Lodge #110 AF&AM, whose members will conduct graveside rites. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Beni Kedem Shriners, Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar.
Anyone that had a chance to meet John will say that he never met a stranger, had a love for his Lord, family, friends and his laughter was infectious. Johnny leaves behind a host of family and friends, all of whom will miss him.
