David Allen Ratliff, 65, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 12, 2021 at Maple Hill Cemetery with Pastor Fred Ferguson officiating and military rites by the American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard. David was born May 20, 1955 in Point Pleasant, W.Va. a son of Jacqueline Childers Hunt and the late Lawyer Ratliff, Jr. He was a retired Lineman and Mechanic from Norfolk Southern and worked at IATSE Local 369. David was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his twin brother Daniel Lee Ratliff. He is survived by his beloved wife Deborah Ratliff; two sons Scott Allen Ratliff and Joshua David Ratliff and one sister Kathleen Hoffman. Per David’s request there will be no visitation. Geraldine Alma Jones, 78, of Huntington, W.Va. passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was born March 4, 1943 in El Paso, TX. a daughter of the late Bill and Mildred Thompson Jones. Survivors include a son Jeff Jones; four brothers Bill Jones, Charles Jones, Fred Jones and Bucky Jones and three sisters Margaret Swihart, Olga Adkins and Mary Gonzales. Bias, Sr, James A “Jumbo”

JAMES ALLEN “JUMBO” BIAS SR., 80 of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. James was born November 29, 1940, a son of the late Jennings and Evelyn Hatten Bias. He was retired from LIUNA Local #543. James attended Kellogg Independent Holiness Church of God. He was a US Army veteran with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of American Legion Post #93 Kenova, whose members will conduct graveside rites. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife and friend, Leonta Lillis Casey Bias; and two sisters, Louise Oldaker and Mary Frances Bias. He is survived by one daughter, Leonta “Tiger” Blankenship; one son, James Allen Bias Jr.; two grandchildren, Cayce Samantha Blankenship and Anthony James Bias; special previous son-in- law, Kenny Blankenship; one sister and brother-in-law, Diana (Bob) Lynch; and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, March 28, 2021 from noon to 2 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova. Funeral services will begin immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m. with Pastor Roger Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in the Henry Hatten Cemetery. Scott, William T “BT”

William Thomas “BT” Scott, 58, of Catlettsburg, passed away suddenly Thursday, March 18, 2021. BT was born December 13, 1962 in Ashland, Ky. a son of Mary “Margie” Scott Leidecker and the late Coach Tom Scott (his best friend). BT attended Morehead State University from 1982-1984 on a golf scholarship and loved anything to do with sports. BT loved spending time with friends and family. He never met a stranger, always wore a smile, and had a good sense of humor. In addition to his mother BT is survived by a son, Hunter Cyrus, two brothers and sisters-in-law Stephen “Pup” Scott (Christine) and Mark Kevin “MK” Scott (Michelle); special friend Nancy Bayless and several nieces, nephews, and extended family who mourn his passing. Ronald Barnette Kellar, 81, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Ron was born April 12, 1939 in Brevard, N.C. a son of the late Paul S. and Lois Barnette Kellar. He was a retired advertising manager from Persinger Supply. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Teddy S. Kellar. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law Robert P. Kellar (Sara) and James R. Marsha Louise Stewart (Thompson), 70, of Huntington, peacefully passed away on Tuesday March 9th, 2021 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill Stewart, her parents Felix and Mary Thompson, and her brother Larry Thompson.  She is survived by her son, Daniel (Michelle); her two grandchildren, Isaac and Charlie; three sisters, Sharon Nicholas of Huntingon, Phyllis Wilcox of Hurricane, and Sylvia Thompson of Huntington; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  She will also be missed by her special ”Group” of friends. Daniels, Mary T

Mary Tienken Daniels, 78, of Wayne, WV. passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Centerville Baptist Church, of which she was a member with her son Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Riggs Family Cemetery. She was born July 26, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. a daughter of the late Clarence and Agatha Tienken. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Paul M. Daniels and siblings Clarence, William, Theodore, Joseph, Agatha, Lillian and Deborah. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law Sharon Seitz (Rocky); one son and daughter-in-law Paul E. McCallister, James “Jim” W

James “Jim” William McCallister, 83, of Kenova, WV went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 12, 2021 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 15, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home Kenova with his son Pastor John McCallister officiating. Jim was born January 18, 1938 son of the late James Travis and Mabel McCallister.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Betty Nelson, a brother Donald McCallister, and daughter-in-law Sheree McCallister(Jimmy). 

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Katie McCallister; three sons and two daughters-in-law James Edward McCallister of Gastonia, NC, David Alan McCallister (Rose) of Kenova, and John Drew McCallister (Sherrie) of Fort Wayne, IN and one daughter Jane Ann McCallister Kennedy of Charleston, WV.  He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law Mickey McCallister Standring (David) of San Bernardino, CA.

Jim and Katie adorned their family which included 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren:  James Lewis McCallister (Laura) of Bozeman, MT, Trent McCallister (Ashley) , Colin, Wells and Lennon of Belmont, NC: Amy McCallister Ethel (JR), Aiden, Nathen and Shelby of Ashland, KY; David Cameron McCallister (Sarah) and son Joey of Knoxville, TN; Tara McCallister Campioni (Jon), and daughters Hannah and Emily of Ceredo, Brandon Irby of Louisville, KY and Raleigh Morris of Kenova; and Victoria McCallister, Brianna McCallister, Silas McCallister, Beckett McCallister of Fort Wayne, IN.  A special note of thanks to grandson Justin Kennedy of Charleston, WV who was so dedicated in the care and love of his grandfather during his illness;

Jim was also proceeded in Death by his close cousins Bert and Ronnie Lloyd of Huntington.  He is survived by cousin Romona McCollister of Rock Hill, OH.  These cousins were like brothers and sisters to Jim throughout their lives.  

Jim’s faith and leadership in the community was a reflection of his love of friends and community.  Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova.  He was a former Lay Chaplain for the Huntington City Mission and also volunteered with the Good Samaritan Center  of Kenova.  Jim also was a member of the Masonic Lodge 110.

Additionally Jim was a servant leader in the community serving as a Kenova City Councilman and was a former Wayne County Board of Education member.  

Jim was an avid fisherman and shared this love with many friends over the years.  He volunteered in many capacities involving sports including as former President of the CK Baseball Little League and numerous coaching roles.  Jim also was a Board Member of the C-K War Memorial Community Center.  

The family is so thankful to the caregivers over the recent years who served Jim and cared for him.

Rakes, Ronald T

Ronald Ted Rakes,86, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with his Savior Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 8, 2021 at Kenova United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Richards and Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Interment with masonic rites will be conducted at Dock’s Creek Cemetery. Ted was born January 30, 1935 in Huntington a son of the late Pete and Virginia Wilson Rakes. Ted spent many terms as a councilman for the City of Kenova and was a tireless worker devoted to the best interests of the city. He was a volunteer for many years at Cabell Huntington Hospital providing words of encouragement, humor and prayers to those in need. Ted had an Insurance and Income Tax business in Kenova for several years. He was a devoted member of the Kenova United Methodist Church and devoted brother in the Kenova Masonic Lodge #110 AF & AM where he was the lodge secretary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Betty Lorine Barry Rakes; son Jeff Rakes; brothers Willie, Ray and Elza Rakes and son-in-law Terry Methax. Survivors include his children Debbie Rakes Methax and Scott Rakes (Tonya); four grandchildren Jimmy Methax (Lisa), Jamey Methax Holt, Zachery Rakes and Isaac Rakes; great-grandchildren Bailey Swanson, Mackenzie Methax, Joshua Methax; daughter-in-law Stacie Rakes; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. Cynthia Jean Sayre Bailey,82, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at her residence. She was born September 13, 1938 in Huntington a daughter of the late Robert L. and Hazel Scarberry Sayre. She was a member of the Ceredo Church of Christ, the Red Hat Society and worked with Wayne County Special Olympics for years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Franklin Bailey and one son who died at birth John Franklin Bailey, Jr. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law Bruce Edward Bailey of Kenova and Robert Victor Bailey (Jennifer) of Hollywood, FL.; two grandchildren Jeremy Bruce Bailey and Ashley Dawn Bailey and four great-grandchildren.
