Dora Ann Burris Akers,83, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025 at the David Simpson Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Dora was born August 22, 1941 in Prichard, W.Va. a daughter of the late Lindsey Leslie and Gladys Marie Hatten Burris. She was retired from the V.A. Medical center and was a member of the First Independent Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hewlett Akers; brothers and sisters-in-law Loval M. Burris (Cynthia), Ernest Ben Burris (Phyllis) and Jarrett L. Burris (Elaine); three sisters and two brothers-in-law Margaret C. Burris, Virginia Burris Bentz (George) and Minnie Heaberlin (Jack) and brother-in-law Jim Jordan.  She is survived by a son Ronald H. Neal, II; step-daughter Linda Akers McCormick (Dutch); grandchildren Renee McCormick Fox (Jim), Michael McCormick (Jennifer), Brandon McCormick (Ingrid); great-grandchildren Savannah Fox Holland (Jennings), Luis Fox, Keyla Fox, Mika McCormick, Genesis McCormick, Peyton McCormick, Alejandro McCormick; great-great-grandchildren Theodore Holland, Clara Rose Holland and Josie Gail Fox; sister Nellie M. Ernest Ray (Ernie) Colegrove

Ernest Ray (Ernie) Colegrove, 64, of South Point, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, August 4, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Eddie Hay officiating. Ernie was born November 21, 1960 in Huntington, WV. son of the late Ernest M. and Deloris (Bonnie) Fields Colegrove. Ernie was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School Class of 1980 and the owner, operator of ERC construction for over 40 years. He had two special friends who worked with him for a number of years, Tom Harris and Marty Christian. Ernie had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Survivors include his life partner Cindy Maynard and her children Brianna, Brittney, and their children; sisters Cinda Colegrove Endicott (Rick) and Cheryl Colegrove Booth (Lenard); several nieces and nephews and special nephew Adam (Eliza) Endicott and niece Lizzie Endicott. Benjamin “Benny” Silas Lycans

Benjamin “Benny” Silas Lycans, 2, of Catlettsburg, Ky. passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Benny was born November 6, 2022 a son of Sarah and Josh McComas. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Larry Lycans and maternal great-grandparents Wiley and Peggy Hatten. Besides mommy and daddy, he is survived by brother Kaiden and Mason; grandmother Etta Lycans; aunts Nikki and Lilly; cousins sissy Bethany and Brantley and Memphis and Ellie who was his best friend; great aunts and uncles Jerry and Lisa and Rick and Missy and numerous other friends and family. Myrlene Moore

Myrlene Moore, 78, of Orlando, FL. formerly of Huntington, WV. passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Orlando Health. Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Dock’s Creek Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Myrlene was born May 4, 1947 in Huntington, WV. a daughter of the late Cubie and George Smith. Myrlene moved to Orlando Florida in June of 1988 where she resided until her passing. She was a homemaker and later began working in multiple fields as a professional domestic worker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Terry D. France and a sister Diane Workman. She is survived by her husband Daniel J. Moore; children Christine Conklin, Tina Murphy and Daniel C. Moore (Chingo); grandchildren Christina Thompson, PJ Thompson, Justin France, Jessica France, Jacob France, Christopher France, Madelynn Moore and Daniel G. Moore; siblings Elizabeth Young, Shirlene France, Louvena King and Georgia Messenger. She truly loved life and lived it with the heart of a lion right up to the very end. She was brave and full of spirit. She had the warmest heart. She was loving, kind, and incredibly generous. Family meant everything to her, and she poured so much love into each of us. To know her was to love her. Myrlene loved any activity that had to do with family and friends and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was of the Christian faith and carried a profound love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Terry David Anderson, 43, of Kenova, WV. passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his residence. Graveside service will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery. Terry was born April 13, 1982 in Pikeville, Ky. a son of Maggie McCoy Bowen. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother Nathan Allen; aunts Christy L. McCoy, Tonya Cole and Patty McCoy Hutchinson; several nieces and great nieces Michelle McCoy, Jean McCoy, Mary McCoy and Debra Ferguson; uncle Billy Slone (Liz) and his best friend who is more like a brother, John Pauley. Wade Jennings Morrison, Jr

Wade Jennings Morrison, Jr., 89, of Huntington, WV. passed away Monday, July 28, 2025 at the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Pastor Jody Fortner officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington. Wade was born November 6, 1935 in Lavalette, WV. a son of the late Wade Jennings and Sophia Bias Morrison. Wade was retired from the West Virginia American Water Company. He loved to talk, laugh, and sit outside in the summer. Wade had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers Walter, Herbert, Paul, Richard and LeRoy and three sisters Ada, Lucy Ruth and Lesta. Survivors include his beloved wife Opal Mahon Morrison; son and daughter-in-law Wade Jennings Morrison, II (Melissa); two grandchildren Hannah and JW; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Vickie Pelfrey and several nieces and nephews. Lester G. Robinson, Jr., 56, of Kenova, WV. passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 at his residence. He was born December 3, 1968 in Huntington, WV. son of Sharon Kay Banfield Gilkerson and the late Lester Gene Robinson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rhonda Bocook Robinson. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Sherry Wells (James); nieces Leslie Scarberry (Heath) and Jamie Wells (fiance’ David Hagerman); great nieces and nephew Braelyn, Laekyn and Kasen Scarberry; nephews Kristopher Benton and Ryan Ratliff; great-nieces Peyton, Kendell and Lillynn Benton; niece Shea Branham; nephew Shane Branham; great-great nephew Ethan Benton; sister-in-law Christie Bocook and several other family and friends. Fred Ross

Fred Ross, 93, of Kenova, WV went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 21, 2025, at his residence. He was born on May 5, 1932, in Wayne County, WV, to Taylor and Tennessee Napier Ross.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Ann (Pat) Ross; daughter Carol Jean Murphy; grandson Nathan Murphy; brothers David, Harvey, and Tillis; and sisters Bessie and Dorothy.

He is survived by his son Fred Ross Jr. wife Haeyong; brother Boyd Ross & wife Charlene; sister Martha and husband Al Zona ; 3 Greatgrandchildren Ashton, Aiden, and Anilayah, and their mother Cathi Murphy and special niece and nephew Donna and Max Crow, along with many other loving nieces and nephews.

Fred retired from Armco Steel and Commercial Welding and Fabricating and was a devoted member of The Bethany Church for 74 years. He was a devout Christian whose faith was unbreakable. Known by many as one of the most Godly men you could ever meet, he lived out his faith daily with humility, grace, and love.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Rollins Funeral Home, 1822 Chestnut St, Kenova, WV. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Walter Ivey Ferguson, Jr., 62, of Huntington, WV. passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. He was born September 18, 1962 in Bluefield, WV. a son of the late Walter Ivey Ferguson, Sr. and the late Joyce Diane Flanagan. He is survived by his beloved wife Diane Dukes Ferguson; a son Walter I. Ferguson, III; two brothers Arthur E. “Gene” Riley, Jr. and Bryan C. Ferguson; nephew David A. Riley and several beloved cats. Brenda Sue Robertson

In Loving Memory of Brenda Sue Robertson

Brenda Sue Robertson, 61, of Kenova, West Virginia, went to dance with the Angels on July 20th, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinsons.

Born on January 4th, 1964, in Huntington, WV, Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late Millard and Lillian Robertson of Kenova. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Michael Robertson, and sister, Betty Jean Thompson.

Brenda leaves behind her cherished sister Rhonda “Ron” Bunyan (Steve), her nephew Shawn Smith (Jodi), and her niece Amber “Kid” Nolan (Scott). She was a proud and loving great-aunt to Tayllor White, Jaidyn Nolan, Angel Nolan, Addison Smith, Dallas Nolan, and Carter Smith, and was adored by many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed to be part of her life.

Brenda had a beautiful, vibrant spirit that lit up every room she entered. Her joy was contagious, and her love boundless. To know her was to love her. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—birthday parties (especially the cake and ice cream), family gatherings, outings with her care staff, and the sweet sounds coming from her beloved jam box.

She was a longtime member of Grace Gospel Church, where she joyfully played the bells in the Shepherd’s Class. Brenda also participated in daily activities through D.A.T.S. of Kenova, where she made countless memories and friendships.

Brenda Sue Robertson was a light in the lives of all who knew her – a gentle soul with a heart full of laughter and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
