Aca Christian Ramey, 59, of Huntington, WV. passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born May 22, 1966 in Huntington, WV. a son of Aca F. and Polly Ann Stephens Ramey. He was employed with the Corp. of Engineers in the Operations Department. Aca enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Allen Fabian Ramey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son Aca C. Ramey, Jr.; daughter Ayla Paige Ramey; brother Anthony H. Ramey; nephew Logan Ramey and niece Savannah Freeman. All services were private. James Albert Cole, Sr
James Albert Cole, Sr., 89, of Ceredo, W.Va. passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2025. Jim was born May 26, 1936 in Ceredo a son of the late Douglas B. and Edith B. Pruitt Cole. He retired from INCO and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local No. 40, Huntington, W.Va. Jim was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church where he often used his woodworking talents to help with the annual Fall Bazaar. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by his son, James A. Cole, Jr. and a brother, Randall Cole. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his sons, their families and his beloved wife, Liz. He loved the mountains and enjoyed fishing and hunting and being outdoors. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Lynch Cole; his sons, William (Bill) Cole and his wife, Heather and Brian Cole and his wife, Melissa; and a brother, Douglas Cole. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Will (Amy) Cole, Brian (Monique) Cole, Pierce (Quenci) Schrade, Mason Schrade, Bethany Cole, Amanda (Garrett) Wallace and Brittany (Jacob) Blankenship; and great grandchildren, Deion, Elena and Marshall. The family would like to express appreciation to his good friend and helpful caregiver Carla Rowsey and the many other friends and neighbors that have visited and provided food over the last few weeks. We also express thanks to Hospice of Huntington who provided great care for him and especially Tim Beach RN who went beyond expectations to provide physical and emotional support during his last days. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Rev. Dr. Andrew Tennant officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Carol Ann Rose
Carol Ann Rose passed away at her home on June 28th, 2025, with daughters Jessica and Sheena by her side. Services will be at Rollins Funeral Home on July 13th from 5-7pm, with beloved friend Chuck Williams speaking on the family’s behalf and music played by family friend, Mike Collins. A private ceremony for her children will be held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast on July 14th.
Carol was born in Kenova, WV on December 29th, 1953, to parents Gladys Rakes and Benjamin Craig. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as brothers Robert Craig, David Craig, Mark Craig, Matthew Sullivan, her cherished granddaughter Schuylar Barnes, the love of her life, husbandTex Rose and her sweet sidekick, Izzy.
She is survived by her children Jessica Basham (Josh), Joshua Hanson (Claudia), Ceizun Schwartz and Sheena Perry (David). Also, grandchildren Allison Williams-Sumpter, Joshua Hanson Jr, Jakob Hanson, Shaye Basham, Zayne Basham, Jaxson Schwartz, Jarrett Schwartz, Regen Perry and Declan Perry. Great grandkids are Vander Barnes (father, Joe Barnes), Abrielle Williams, Julian Hanson and Ryker Sumpter. Herbert (Steve) Barrett, 61, of Kenova, WV. passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday July 3, 2025 at Roselawn Cemetery 450 Courthouse Road Princeton, WV. 24740. Evelyn was born July 8, 1931 in Havaco, WV. a daughter of the late Mack and Gladys Stroupe Waller. She graduated from Welch High School in 1948. She was a homemaker and was deeply involved with various organizations dealing with the children and her favorite hobby was genealogy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Franklin Anderson and her son Frank Anderson. She is survived by her children Roberta Anderson Miller (Dave) and John Anderson (Barbara); daughter-in-law Pam Anderson; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Elizabeth Lee Christian Hayton,92, formerly of Kenova, WV. passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at the Sycamore Springs Nursing Home in Miamisburg, Ohio. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. She was born August 13, 1932 in Prichard, WV. a daughter of the late Daniel T. and Frankie Blair Christian. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School, former clerk with the Huntington Advertiser and a member of the Big Hurricane Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rev. William (Bill) Hayton; sister Pauline Newman; brother Dan Christian, Jr. and precious grandson Adam Joseph Hayton. Rhoda Lee Mathis Terry
Rhoda Lee Mathis Terry, 74, of Ceredo, WV passed away on June 25, 2025 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was born September 11, 1950 a daughter of the late Clifford and Florence Williamson Mathis. Rhoda was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her family. She had a lifelong love for animals. Rhoda enjoyed gardening and planting and working in the flower garden along with her husband. She married Charles W. Terry of Ceredo and they had a son, Charles Douglas “Doug” Terry who preceded her in death last year. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sisters, Martha Ann Dingess and Ethel and Charles Don Marshall; one brother, Chester and Margaret Mathis; her sister-in-law and dear friend, Margaret Waller and a brother-in-law, Lafe G. “Tug” and Sylvia Terry and several nieces and nephews. Janet Lynn Bryant,56, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at Three Rivers Medical Center. Janet was a homemaker, wife, mother and loving grandmother. Barbara Jean Hale Farley Hicks
Barbara Jean Hale Farley Hicks 89, a cherished mother, grandmother, wife, and a beloved educator who shaped countless young lives, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025 in Worthington, Ohio. Formerly of Chesapeake, Ohio and Kenova, West Virginia, Barbara’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, warmth and compassion. Barbara was born in Wayne County, West Virginia to Lucian and Lina Hale. She graduated from Wayne High School and Marshall University, and was an educator in Wayne County Schools for many years, with most of her career spent as a principal at Ferndale and Kenova Elementary Schools. She loved children and valued each of them individually. Barbara had high standards as a principal and leader, but she always led with thoughtfulness and compassion. Her students respected and loved her, and even as adults they would stop to greet her in the community and recall pleasant memories with her. In her retirement, Barbara worked as an adjunct faculty at Marshall University teaching education classes to prepare the next generation of educators. Barbara had a quick and radiant smile and a special way of making others feel welcome. She was a long time faithful member of First Baptist Church of Kenova where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school classes, organized and prepared weekly Wednesday night dinners, and served in many other roles. She was always eager to help out however was needed. Barbara was a member of the Three Arts Club of Ashland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold N. Hicks, Jr., her parents, and her siblings: Tennie Booth, Opal Mills, Talmadge Hale, Garnet Hale, Edward Hale, Norma Hale, Charles Hale, Lucian Willard Hale, and her twin sister Bernice Ray Sanders. She is survived by her children Susan Shuff and her husband Van of Westerville, Ohio; Scott Farley and his wife Deidre of Kenova, West Virginia; and her grandchildren Anna Shuff, Olivia Shuff and Beau Farley. She also leaves behind her sister in-laws Carolyn (Susie) Hale, Gloria Hale and Amy Crookes along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
