Deloris Avonell Perdue Napier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and child of God, went home to be with her Lord on Friday January 9, 2026. Avonell was born on December 28, 1935 in Wayne County, W.Va. She married the love of her life, the late Donald Lee Napier, and was a pastor’s wife for over 40 years supporting his ministry. She also worked for Corbin Limited as a seamstress. Avonell was a wonderful mother to her six children, five girls, Melany Butcher, Melissa Wyatt, Michelle (Bret) Hanshaw, Marsha Napier and Monica Pennington and one son, Manuel Brent (Sherry) Napier. In addition to her children Avonell is also survived by her sister, Pauline McNeeley; 12 grandchildren, Nancy (Rick) Blankenship, Susan Butcher, Kyle (Beth) Butcher, Lee (Leigh Ann) Lester, Amy Cloke, Ashley Heck, Nicholas “Nick” (Megan) Hanshaw, Sarah (Corey) Gue, Michael (Natashia) Hanshaw, Kelsey Hunt, Caleb (Kenzi) Pennington and Joshua (Brooke) Pennington; and 23 great grandchildren Tori Blankenship, Isaac Sadler, Grace Butcher, Silas Butcher, Elise Butcher, Addlyn Butcher, Dylan Lester, Erica (J.P.) McGuire, Ryder Cloke, Jaley Wyatt, Joseph Heck, James Heck, Jenson Heck, Dominick Hanshaw, Izabella Hanshaw, Barrett Hanshaw, Duke Hanshaw, Ben Gue, Will Gue, Eli Hanshaw, Isaiah Hanshaw, Emilia Pennington, and Easton Pennington. Avonell spent her life caring for her family from being a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, to a blessed GranGran. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed cooking, loved to sing and being with her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova where she sang in the choir. Visitation will be at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday January 11, 2026 with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Tony Cicenas officiating. There will be a private family burial. John Keith Maynard, age 81, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

John was born on September 5, 1944 in Wayne County, West Virginia to John Maynard and Brookie Perry Maynard, who welcomed him into a loving family that shaped the man he became. He had a lifelong love for cars and took great pride in being part of Somernites Cruise, where he enjoyed time spent with friends who shared his passion. John was also active in the community, serving on the Somerset City Board of Variance.  He spent many hours with his buddies at the Somerset Fitness and Rocky Hollow Recreation Center. A devoted UK sports fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team.

Above all else, John was a Christian and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family and friends were the center of his world and enjoyed evening phone calls with his beloved brother, Steve and dear friend, Jerry Weigel and others.  He will be remembered for his kind heart, special friendships, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.

John is survived by his wife of more than sixty years, Donna Lykins Maynard, whom he married on June 29, 1963 at Centerville Baptist Church in Wayne County, West Virginia. He leaves behind his pride and joy and beloved grandson, Hayden Christopher Roberts of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; two daughters, Theresa Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky and Dr. Kelly Rae Maynard of Lexington, Kentucky; one brother, Steve A. Maynard of Wayne County, West Virginia; two sisters, Betty Jean Adkins of Parsons, West Virginia and Milla Flaugher of Proctorville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Brookie Maynard.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 10 beginning at 2 PM, with remarks at 3:30, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, West Virginia. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Wayne County, West Virginia.

Effie M. Rakes, 81, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Sunday January 4, 2026 at the Emogene Dolan Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. She was born October 26, 1944 in Genoa, W.Va. a daughter of the late Jay Pinson and Gracie Watts Pinson. Effie worked several places throughout her life but worked the longest for Cannonball’s Variety Store. She was a Christian and attended the Kenova Church of Christ when she could. She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling with friends over the years. You may not have known Effie’s name but you would often see her walking to the gazebo in downtown Kenova whenever the weather was nice. She would sit in the park for several hours watching people come and go and enjoying the sunshine. In addition to her parents Effie was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by brothers, Jessie Pinson of Wayne and Fred Sias, with whom she shared her home and one sister, Mary Copley. As she requested, the family will hold a Memorial Gathering from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday January 9, 2026 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. There will be no funeral service. Cheryl Colegrove Booth,59, of Kenova, WV., passed away Friday, December 26, 2025 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Graveside service will be conducted 11:30 AM Monday, December 29, 2025 at Dock’s Creek Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Hay officiating. Cheryl was born February 14, 1966 in Huntington a daughter of the late Ernest M and Deloris (Bonnie) Fields Colegrove. She was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Ernest Ray (Ernie) Colegrove. Cheryl is survived by her husband Leonard Booth; two sons and daughters-in-law Christopher Caldwell (Kayla) and Jacob Caldwell (Jennifer); five grandchildren Gavin, Reagan, Amelia, Dayton and Isaac Caldwell; sister and brother-in-law Cinda Endicott (Rick) and numerous other family and friends. Alvin Ray Aliff ,79, of Huntington, WV., passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted 12:30 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Dixon officiating. He was born October 6, 1946 in Huntington a son of the late Ray Clarence and Violet May Maze Aliff. Alvin was a retired Master Machinist and loved working on his antique cars and going to car shows.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Scott Aliff. Alvin is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Judy Rood Aliff; a son and daughter-in-law Alvin Ray Aliff, Jr. (Lori); a daughter and her fiance’ Tammy Hiroskey (Jon Hypes); three grandchildren Cody Adkins Tayler Allyn (Cris) and Gabriella Aliff; one sister Anna Jenkins (Rick Carter); his four legged buddy Luke and numerous other family and friends. Daniel (Danny) Allen Prince, 43, of Huntington, WV passed away December 14, 2025 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born December 15, 1981 in Huntington, WV to the late Robert and Denise Prince. He is survived by his siblings; Robert Prince, Kimberly Haren, Teresa Starks and Cecelia Jackson, as well as many dear family and friends. A memorial service will be held for Danny at 1:00 PM on December 27, 2025 at Open Door Baptist Church, 1900 Madison Avenue, Huntington, WV 25704, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM with Pator Dustin Clark officiating.

James Phillip Ratliff, of Barboursville, WV, passed away December 18, 2025 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. A memorial gathering will be held 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, December 22, 2025 at Kenova Church of Christ. Service will follow with Minister Chris Stevens officiating. He was born November 6, 1946 to the late Arthur Glenn and Beulah “Dolly” Ratliff. He was also preceded in death by his brother William Earl Ratliff and sister Carol Lynn Johnson. James Retired from the Ohio River Terminal where he worked for 40 years. After retirement, he went on to work security at the Huntington Mall for 11 years. He was a member of Kenova Church of Christ where he led an adult class for 20years. Survivors include his beloved wife Beth Genene Ratliff; daughter Leslie Marchio (John) and son Aaron Gallion (Ashlee); a brother Richard Glenn (Christine) Ratliff; sister-in-law Donna Moore; grandchildren Lauren Beth Marchio, Ryan Marchio, Anna Grace Lantz, Ava Gallion, and Addyson Gallion. Chauncey “Red” Adkins, Jr. was born July 25th, 1932 and went home to be with the Lord on December 18th, 2025. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Ann Adkins, three brothers; Carl Adkins, Herald Adkins, and Paul Adkins; and two sisters; Inez (Adkins) Dial and Mauna Fae Adkins. He is survived by his two children, Rick (Tammy) Adkins of Huntington, WV and Mike (Penny) Adkins of Kenova, WV; four grandchildren, Jeremy Adkins of Huntington, Brittany (Timmy) Arthur of Chesapeake, OH, Corey (Brittany) Adkins of Huntington and Tyler (Chloe) Adkins of Huntington. He is also survived by an honorary daughter, Jenny (Pac) Smith of Kenova and honorary grandchildren, Dustin (Jamie) Smith of Huntington, Coty (Beth) Smith of Catlettsburg, KY and Jacob Smith of Huntington, and a total of 17 great grandchildren. He was an army veteran and served in the Korean conflict. He was a salesman at First City Auto Sales for many years and later owned his own dealership. He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He liked to water ski, pitch horse-shoes and bowl. He enjoyed going to church and taking part in church related activities. He attended The Family of God church in Morehead, Ky and later after moving to Huntington he attended Locust Grove Baptist church. During the last few years he attended ReClaim Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 12/23/2025 at 11am Reclaim Church, Huntington with Pastor Corey Adkins officiating and Pastor Tim Arthur assisting. Visitation will be two hours before the service. The family asks in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to ReClaim Church or 26th Street Baptist Church. Dinah M Pratt, of Huntington, WV, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Kenova Church of Christ with Minister Amos Prince officiating. Interment will follow at Catlettsburg Cemetery. Dinah was born January 11, 1947, in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late Mitchell and Opal Rowe. She is also preceded in death by her husband Clarence Pratt and daughter-in-law June Swinford. She was a member of Kenova Church of Christ. Dinah was a homemaker who loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids dearly. She is survived by three sons David Swinford, Phillip B Swinford, and Scott Pratt; one sister and brother-in-law Joe and Peggy Pratt and a brother Louis Rowe; six grandchildren Phillip B Swinford, Jr, Violet Marie Swinford, Adam Swinford, Faith Lyons, Sarah Truitt, and Levi Swinford and five great-grandchildren David Lyons, Jessie Lyons, Ada Swinford, Trea Swinford, Scarlett Swinford, Alexandria Rose Swinford, Jamie Claire Swinford, Deven Lyons, Andrew Joseph Truitt III. Friends may call Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Kenova Church of Christ. Casey Michael Chaffin was born on September 14, 1974, in Huntington, West Virginia, and was called home on December 16, 2025. While our hearts grieve his passing, we find peace in knowing that Casey accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized on November 2, 2025, securing the promise of eternal life.

Casey grew up in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, where he formed lifelong friendships, and he graduated from Boyd County High School in 1992. He went on to build a strong work ethic throughout his career, working as sales manager for Kentucky Eagle and the Kentucky Lottery, where he was known for his dedication and friendly nature.
