Muriel Brown Maynard Salyers,99, of Ceredo, W.Va. passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home with Elders A.J. Williamson, Clarence Thompson, Jr. and Gary Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Muriel was born September 17, 1922 in Crum, W.Va. a daughter of the late John and Sarah Varney Brown. She was a member of the Westwood United Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Willis Maynard, Jr. and William Franklin Salyers; one son Jerry Lee Maynard; three step-daughters, Phyllis Lauderback, Joyce Smith and Janet Lavender and nine brothers Alvis, Alfred, Clarence, Clyde, Claude, Clinton, Clifford, Elmer and Lawrence Brown. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tom Maynard (Joyce); three stepsons and daughter-in-law William Franklin Salyers, Jr. (Etta), Larry Salyers (Wanda) and Ronnie Salyers and two sisters-in-law Gladys Brown and Hatsue Brown. She also leaves three grandsons Bryan Maynard, Jeremy Maynard (Regina) and Tyler Maynard; two great-grandchildren Gavin Maynard, Reece Stevenson and many other step-grand and great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Jeffery Blankenship, 47, of Olanta, SC, formerly of Huntington, W.Va. Passed away February 1, 2022. He was born March 11, 1974 a son of the late, Georgia Workman Blankenship and Ed Blankenship of Prichard. He graduated from Barboursville High School and the Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Jeff was a member of the Life Center Pentecostal Holliness Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jeff is survived by his wife, Rachel Blankenship; his son, Steven Jones; his two daughters, Jewell and Lana Jones; his father, Ed Blankenship and his brother, Travis Blankenship. Patricia Ann (“Pat”) Carlson, 77, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2022 in the comforting care of her family and the Doctors Hospital staff in Columbus, Ohio. A resident of Jackson, Ohio in recent years, she was born June 1, 1944 in Huntington, West Virginia to Everett and Frances Dean. After attending Huntington High School she later worked to earn her G.E.D. and completed a medical assistance program in Michigan.

On July 23, 1991 she was united in marriage with Frederick Carlson in Roseville, Michigan, and she was doted on and cared for by Fred every day of the next thirty years. They spent memorable years together there, especially enjoying times in Manistee, before relocating to West Virginia and then to southeast Ohio.

Pat was a hard worker from a young age, whether in the home or in her jobs. She dearly loved her family, her dogs, the great outdoors and wildlife, her games, her church families at World Outreach in Jackson and Jefferson Avenue in Huntington, and her roommate, friends and bingo buddies at Four Winds.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were her brother, James (“Jimmy”) Dean; her brother-in-law, Richard Napier; and her sister-in-law Marilyn Wright. In addition to her loving husband Fred, she is survived by her children, Teresa (William) Hay of Prichard, WV, Shirley Diann (Dale) Johnson of Kenova, WV, Michael (Beverly) Perry of Jackson, OH, Steve Perry of Lavalette, WV, and Sunday (Paul) Largent of Sterling Heights, MI; grandchildren Aaron, Paige, Dakota, Dale, Kristen, Brittany, Kasey, Brooke, Alexia, Ashley and Hayli; great-grandchildren Alyson, Brantley, Memphis, Jazzmyne, Quinn, Vivienne, Katelyn, Keegan, Colton, Caleb, Annabelle, Gidian, Conner, Claire, Seth, Thomas, Owen, Kaiya and Thiago; her sister Helen Napier; brother-in-law Richard Carlson; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Bean Cemetery on Centerville Road in Prichard, West Virginia, and the family requests masks be worn for everyone’s safety. Rollins Funeral Home is assisting.

Jerry Maurice Sowder, 80, of Kenova, W.Va. Passed away January 31, 2022 at his home. He was born November 9, 1941 a son of the late Barnett T. and Susie J. Maxwell Sowder. He worked as a store clerk for Bill Robertson, who was the owner of Spring Valley Food Mart. Bill was extremely kind to Jerry during the many years he worked at the store. Jerry was an avid UK Basketball fan and he enjoyed golfing. He was a member of Kenova Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Lawrence and Steve Sowder and one sister, Janis Caldwell. He is survived by his brother, Raleigh “Red” Sowder and his wife, Janet, with whom he made his home; one sister-in-law, June Sowder and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Spring Valley Memory Gardens with Minister Amos Prince officiating. Emil Altos Epling, 83, of Ceredo, W.Va. Passed away on Monday January 31, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He was born February 9, 1938 in Wayne County, a son of the late, Oscar and Margaret Epling. He worked as a drywall installer for Belchers Drywall. He was a member of Christ Temple Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Milford Marie Crockett Epling and one brother, Oscar Epling, Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Danny) Copley and Loretta (Mark) Canup; three sons, Charles (Angie) Crockett, Lee (Patricia) Smith, and Terry (Teresa) Smith; two sisters, Arbutus Berry, and Blanche Adkins; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 at Docks Creek Cemetery. David Ronald Parsons,74, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1947 in Genoa, W.Va. a son of the late William David and Goldie Thompson Parsons. David was a former Maintenance Supervisor with Service Pump and Supply and was employed for 25 years with Pilgrim Glass. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Judy Teresa Holt Parsons and three brothers Nathan Thompson, Bobby Joe Thompson and Sam Parsons. Survivors include his beloved wife Jacqueline Lucas Parsons; two daughters Tammy Rena Parsons Cook and Jennifer Michelle Parsons; step-son Evan Adkins; Sister Loretta Linville (Cletis); granddaughter Shaina Rene’ Cook; grand-son Shane Tyler Cook; special nephew Kevin Kitts and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, family and neighbors. Freddie B. Crossen, Jr.,69, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Promedica of Riverview. He was born July 10, 1952 in Kenova, W.Va. a son of the late Freddie B. Crossen, Sr. and the late Bronwen Jean Carr Crossen. Survivors include his beloved wife Pamela Paulette Ferguson Crossen; son and daughter-in-law Brian L. Crossen (Ashley); daughter and son-in-law Amy L. Ferguson (Aron); grandchildren Riley, Kennedy, Tyler, Zachariah, Alex, Brady, Mackanzie, Makala, Jayden and Fleshia; two great-granddaughters Celeste and Sereninty and brother Gary Lee Crossen. A memorial service for friends and family will be conducted Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Kenova United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Maynard officiating. James “Jim” Alan Mitchell, age 82, went peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior Monday, January 17, 2022.

Jim was born August 7, 1939 in Weston, West Virginia to the late Voyle and Amy Linger Mitchell. He graduated from Jane Lew High School in Jane Lew, West Virginia in 1957. Jim eventually moved to Huntington, West Virginia where he initially went to work at Union Boiler and then later for Pritchard Electric at Ashland Oil retiring in 2001 as a laborer for the Union Local 1445.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping all of his life. The outdoors, in his mind, was only made better when shared with family. As such, one of the great joys of his life was Three Brother’s Camp that he acquired with brothers Howard and Charlie Mitchell in Valley Head, West Virginia which saw a host of family and friends over the years and where he spent much of his retirement. His family very much looks forward to continuing this legacy in his honor for generations to come.

Jim is preceded in death by brother Eugene Mitchell and his wife Isabel, sister Katie White and her husband Ralph, sister Geraldine Taylor and her husband Floyd, sister Linda Barker and a brother-in-law Glenn Maley.

He is survived by sister Shirley Maley , brother Howard (Doris) Mitchell, brother Thomas (Lana) Mitchell, brother Charles (Roberta) Mitchell and brother-in-law Jerry Barker. He is also survived by his four children James (Joanna) Mitchell, John (Hillary) Mitchell, Sherry (Ken) Ward and Lisa Ward as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who fondly knew him as “Pampaw”.

Prior to moving to Huntington, Jim attended Wayside Southern Baptist Chapel in Buckhannon, West Virginia and was baptized in the Buckhannon River at Sago in July 1974. It is with this blessed assurance that his family celebrates his life. Services will be at ReClaim Church in Huntington, West Virginia at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022 with Pastor Corey Adkins officiating. Most importantly, Austin had a deep love for his whole family and cherished the times they could be together. His dad Chris, has always been his “best man”, “his rock”, and “workout buddy”. His mom Paula, has always been his ray of sunshine, source of encouragement, and spiritual guidance. Michael, always gave him direction in life and taught him the joy of cycling. Austin and Lauren always shared a special bond together, giving each other support and advice from across the world or just across the river. Austin always cherished his time with Evan Vega from the time they were young playing soccer together to just last week playing corn hole. Austin was so excited to see Alexis Schoessow (Evan’s Vegas Fiancé) to join the large Vega Clan. Austin shared many childhood experiences with Evan Bailey and loved his nephew fiercely. Austin loved growing up and spending time on the river with his many cousins and siblings.

Austin’s passions, as many know, were continuing his education, staying physically fit, and enjoying time with his friends and family. He had a soft spot for any child who needed a role model and took time out of his day to play with the children of friends and family.

He was always making everyone laugh, his quick wit and sense of humor was legendary, never one to mince his words, always keeping it real. Austin’s motto was “ ‘I am’ is greater than ‘I was’. Each day was a new beginning, a chance to chart a new course. He protected and supported the people he loved unconditionally. He gave himself the grace to become a better man. He did not let his past define him and he had so many goals to achieve. Mostly though he had so much love to give.

We will miss his infectious smile, ability to brighten the room, and his intense love for his friends and family.

He is now in the arms of his heavenly father. We can only imagine the welcome he received when he was greeted by his grandmother Doris who couldn’t wait to meet her grandson.

Evelyn Irene Ross Waller,83, of Huntington, W.Va. passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Huntington Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 22, 1938 in Huntington, W.Va. a daughter of the late Floyd and Mamie Mae Tucker Ross. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clyde Waller and a sister Betsy Withrow. Survivors include two sons Randy Waller (Tina) and Steve Waller (Gina); two grandchildren Alisha Waller and Stephen Waller; brother Don Ross and sister Milda Justice (Glen).
