William “Bill” Neville Denman

William “Bill” Neville Denman, of Huntington, WV passed away on June 16, 2026, at The Village at Riverview. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Dr. Sarah N. Denman (Newman), his daughter Katherine Denman, his sister Joan E. Denman (Leslie Innis), sister-in-law Sue Akers (Newman), brother-in-law Gary Akers, niece Jennifer Akers and his favorite fur baby Precious (the cat).

Bill loved teaching, he loved his family, but his life-long passion was the constant fight for civil liberties for all.

He was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 28, 1940, to Oscar Neville Denman and Marian Elizabeth Denman (LaRue). He graduated from California State University in 1962 and then went on to earn his Masters in 1966 from CSU as well. He joined the Marshall Department of Speech in 1965 and earned his Ph.D. from Ohio University in 1974. He met his wife Sarah at Marshall University and they married in 1969.

During this time at Marshall, he directed and acted in various theatrical productions and worked with the speech team starting in the 1970s before taking over as director in the1980s. In 1986, he became the founding director of the newly created Society of Yeager Scholars.

He also served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies and Interim Director of the Integrated Science and Technology program at Marshall.  His scholarship focused on the role of rhetoric in shaping societies and his teaching had a profound impact on the lives of generations of students. He was named the third John Deaver Drinko Distinguished Fellow at Marshall in 1996 and received the Sid Bell Memorial Award granted by the West Virginia American Civil Liberties Union in 2010.  Bill was also proud of his decades long service on the WV-ACLU Board of Directors, after twice serving as President.

He spent his entire academic career at Marshall University, finally retiring in 2003. He spent the next years reading books, listening to opera, taking naps and enjoying traveling with his wife, mostly visiting their daughter in Washington, DC.

Per his wishes, no services will be held, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Joan Alberta Gibson

Joan Alberta Gibson, 64, of Kenova, WV passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. She was born September 7, 1961 a daughter of the late, Mitchell and Roberta Hatten Gibson. She grew up in Kenova and was a graduate of C-K High School class of 1979. Joanie loved music and enjoyed listening to it with both her friends and family. She loved Betty Boop and had a vast collection of Betty Boop items. Most of all Joanie loved her family and spending time with them, they were the bright lights in her life. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Wilkes; her twin brother, John Gibson; a sister, Brenda Gibson Rutherford and a nephew, Mitchell Grant Gibson. Those left to cherish her life and memories include her beloved daughter, Stephanie (John Green) Wilkes, a brother, William Mitchell (Butch) Gibson and his wife, Leslie; special nieces and nephews, Kenny (Amy) Underwood, Heather (Tony) Serrano, Amanda Gibson and her husband, Michael Stamey, John (Megan) Gibson, Hannah (Blair) Gibson, Joseph Gibson and Ryan Johnson and other great nieces and nephews, an aunt and uncle, Boots & Guy Wellman, a cousin, Shelly Ferraro and two loved friends, Harley Mattox and Tonya Jones. Charles Allen Hogan

Charles Allen Hogan, 62, of Kenova, WV, passed away May 20, 2026. He was born October 21, 1963, a son of the late Clarence and Alela Finley Hogan. He was also preceded in death by sisters Crystal Staley, Emogene Stevens, Imogene Sexton, Trisha Ann Hogan, and one brother Eugene Shannon. He is survived by two sisters Rosemary Porter with whom he lived and Lynn Stevens. Charles was a member of Kenova Church of Christ where there will be a celebration of life, June 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM with Minister Chris Stevens officiating. James Williamson

James Williamson, 96, of Kenova, WV, passed away on May 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. James was born November 22, 1929, at home in Bull Creek near Crum, West Virginia, the son of Lucinda Salmons Williamson and James Williamson. James graduated from Crum High School in 1951. James married the love of his life Mary Katherine Herald Williamson on December 22, 1951. They celebrated 75 wonderful and loving years together. James especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on adventures. James worked as Vice President of the Tristate Division of United Coal Company from where he retired. James was a member of New Home United Baptist Church for many years and is currently a member of Old Friendship United Baptist. He was also a member of the Masonic Jewel Lodge No. 140 of Crum West Virginia. Remaining to cherish James’ memory are his wife Mary Katherine Herald Williamson; children, Karen Williamson Adkins (Bobby), Bobby Williamson (Connie), Kathy Williamson Crittendon (Benny); grandchildren, Leigh Ann Adkins Merritt (Roger), Steven Williamson (Jennifer), Chris Williamson (Rachael), Aimee Williamson Smith, Jessica Crittendon Helton (Jason), Jeremy Crittendon (Lindsey), Jennifer Crittendon Wood (Andy), Rebecca Adkins, Whitney Williamson (Will Richards), Shaunna Patton (Adam); great-grandchildren, Roger Merritt, Joseph Merritt, Caleb Williamson, Jacob Williamson, James Smith, Derrick Smith, Sylvia Williamson, Logan Williamson, Hudson Helton, Charlotte Helton, Isabelle Clagg, Cole Wood, Nora Wood, Lynsie Williamson, Liam Williamson, Susanna Patton and Michael Patton; great great grandchild, Jaelyn Paige Smith; and many loving nieces, and nephews; a special caregiver, Ashley Sweaney; and other family members. William Michael Fielding

William Michael Fielding, 65, of Huntington, WV passed away April 17, 2026 at his home. He was born October 28, 1960 a son of the late William Othel and Neva Jeanette Arnold Fielding. Mike grew up in the Ceredo Kenova area and graduated from C-K High School. He served his country in the US Navy and members of American Legion Post 93 Kenova Honor Guard will provide military rites. Mike worked many years for the US Postal Service. He loved music and enjoyed playing his guitars. He also was a coin collector and an avid Marshall fan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Cindie Fielding and a brother-in-law, Keith Craft. Mike is survived by his son, Shaun Fielding and his wife Nikki and their children, Kai and Wyatt; three sisters, Connie Johnson and her husband, John, Patty Muncy, and her husband Lonny and Cathie Craft; nieces and nephew, Jason, Kara and Candyce; and his much loved dog, Bandit. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday April 30, 2026 at Rollins Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. A short service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. John Denver Milam

John Denver Milam, 91, of Kenova, WV passed away on Wednesday April 22, 2026 in Huntington, WV. He was born August 28, 1934 in Charleston, WV a son of the late Romie Jacob and Pearl Cornelius Milam. John served in the US Navy and members of American Legion Post 93 Kenova Honor Guard will provide military honors. John worked as an operator for Marathon Petroleum. He loved Jesus and faithfully served his Lord as a member of the 20th Street Baptist Church in Kenova. John also loved his family and those left behind will celebrate his life and mourn his passing. He was an avid bowler and greatly enjoyed his teammates and friends on the Tuesday Bowling League at the Strike Zone Bowling Center. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Mary Lou Hlusko, Ira Milam, Wanda Moore, Anna Whittington, Charles Milam and Roy Milam. John is survived by one son, Chris Greggory Milam and his wife, Benita; one daughter, Kim Milam-Cameron; a sister, Rose Flanagan; grandchildren, Mason Johannesen and his wife, Jennifer, Seth Milam and his wife, Morgan, Alex Milam, Mary Ashton and her husband, Brian and Kasey Milam Cameron; great grandchildren, Jaize Johannesen, Kaiden Milam and Jackson Milam; many other family members and a special friend, John Crawford. David Bryan Little

David Bryan Little, 66, of Kenova, WV passed away April 20, 2026 at his home after a long illness. He was born September 16, 1959 in Ashland, KY a son of the late Mack Edward and Doris Jean Young Little. David attended C-K High School and then graduated from Mountain State Christian Academy. He was a truck driver and welding foreman for INCO. David was an avid hunter and enjoyed being in the woods with his dad, brother and uncles. He also enjoyed taxidermy and country music. He is survived by one daughter, Candace Little and her husband, Jon Meadows; one son, David Bryan Little, Jr.; one brother, Stephen Little and his wife, Connie; one sister, Anita Fetterhoff and her husband, Lance; and grandchildren, Colin, Chloe and Raylan; nieces and nephews, Michael, Brittany, Caitlin, Stephen and Stephanie. Garland A. (Buddy) Pratt Jr.

Garland (Buddy) Adam Pratt, Jr. of Kenova, WV passed away at the age of 82 on March 25, 2026 at Huntington Hospice House following an extended illness. Buddy was born on August 5, 1943 in Huntington, WV to Garland and Hazel Pratt, both deceased. He is preceded in death by sisters Velma Bowen of Kenova, WV and Virginia (Jenny) LeMaster of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and brother Warren Pratt of Port St. Lucie, Fl.

Buddy entered the US Army on April 13, 1965 where he served as Communication Specialist with the 97th Engineering Company, First US Army in South Korea. He was discharged in to April 11, 1967 with the rank of SP4(T).
Buddy worked as a civilian for the Huntington Bus Company for a few years before going to work for INCO, where he worked for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his many neices and nephews located in West Virginia, North Carolina and Florida who loved him dearly. He spent many Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with family and friends. Buddy was a member of First Baptist Church of Kenova his entire life and served as a deacon and usher for years. Buddy lived his entire life in the family home on Poplar Street in Kenova where he was the loving care giver to his Mother in her later years.

Delbert Junior Shy

Delbert Junior Shy, 79, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 22, 2026. A believer in Jesus Christ, he is now at home with his Savior.

He was born November 2, 1946, in Prichard, West Virginia, a son of the late Delbert Sr. and Sadie Gilkerson Shy, and the youngest of 10 children.

After graduating from Buffalo High School, Deb began working at Armco Steel and was a proud member of United Steelworkers Local 1865, where he served as an elected union representative. He later became a Staff Representative for the International United Steelworkers, advocating for nurses and healthcare workers throughout Appalachia.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard Reserve and a member of American Legion Post 93 in Kenova, whose Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.

Deb was a man of strong convictions, known for his patriotism and steadfast support of working people. He dedicated his life to advocating for workers’ rights and was honored for his impact with induction into the West Virginia Laborers Hall of Fame.

He enjoyed westerns and the outdoors. He found great joy in golfing, gardening, hunting, and fishing, and especially valued time spent with friends, including his lifelong friend, David “Bones” McComas.

Above all, Deb was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who cherished time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Willard “Wick,” and Toby Shy; and three sisters, Willa Board, Dean Finley, and Mona Cole.

Survivors include his beloved daughters, Melanie (Jason) Kearns, Marissa (Bill) Coleman, and Megan (Scott) Payne; grandchildren, Nicholas (Haley) Hagy, Lauren Shilot, Natalee Hagy, Sarah Kearns, Jacob Arrington, Savannah Payne, and Delaney Payne; one brother, Vernon Dale Shy; two sisters, Olive “Ott” Smith and Pansy Whaley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday March 26, 2026 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ceredo, in Ceredo, West Virginia, with visitation from noon until 2 p.m. Graveside burial will follow at the Shy-Gilkerson Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a local veterans’ home, honoring Deb’s generosity and service to others.

Edna Mae Marcum

Edna Mae Marcum, 81, of Huntington, WV passed away March 19, 2026 at Salterra memory care in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born May 16, 1944, at home to the late Dicie Fleming and Reece Muncie. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Landon Marcum, brother Ervin Muncie, grandson Michael Locasio, and great-grandson Everett Marcum. Edna was a kind-hearted generous woman. She was a very faithful Christian and was fiercely devoted to her family. She was a diligent worker and devoted her life to raising her boys and taking care of her grandbabies, of whom she deeply loved. She loved reading the Bible, attending church, spending time with her family and best friend Brenda Mays, fishing, going to the shooting range (of where she was a crack shot with a .22), and playing card games. She was a member of Kenova Church of God, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a volunteer in their Backpack ministry. She is survived by her family: Charles (Kelli) Marcum Jr., Johnny (Andrea) Marcum, Bobby (Melissa) Marcum, Rachael Marcum, Chase Marcum, Chloe’ (Ethan) Napier, Emily Marcum, Atlas Marcum, Oliver Marcum, Lillie Fleming, and Edna Jane Richards. Edna will be deeply missed and forever loved. A graveside service will be conducted at Noon on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova. There will be no visitation.
