  1. I am sad to hear of Joe Passing. He was a good man. Joe was a Operations Shift Foreman and friend when we worked for Ashland oil in the 70’s and 80’s. I have many memories of working with Joe and his positive upbeat answers. It was a very different time back then in the Refinery, for the better, and I am glad I got to meet and work with such a man.

    1. Thank you Tom. Dad enjoyed working with you, and he always said that you were one of the best operators that he had worked with.

  2. Helen and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was a wonderful Christian and a great Sunday school teacher. My prayers are with you. God bless.

  3. Uncle Joe was one-of-a-kind!!! He was such a great man!!! He was a devoted husband to my Aunt Frances, loving father to my cousins Steve, Greg, Mike, and Lisa, and he was my dad’s good pal!!! What I loved most about Uncle Joe was his kind and gentle soul! …and our mutual love for bluegrass and country music made us instant buddies. When I talked about Uncle Joe, I would always describe him as my “fun uncle.” Even though he advanced in age, he never seemed to lose his youthful spirit. Joe loved to talk, smile, and laugh, and I will miss him dearly!!!

    1. Thank you Tabby. Dad always loved his weekly Sunday chats with your Dad. They can talk for eternity now!

  4. Our deepest condolences from his relatives , Mike SLater, Marsha SLater and JUDY SLater-Smith.

    1. Thank you Mike, Marsha and Judy. We appreciate your comments.

  5. I was very blessed to have known Joe through church. Over the last few years I became close to Joe, I confided in him and used his biblical words an wisdom to guide me in some rough decisions I’ve had to make recently. I will forever be great full to him. I will miss that special greeting I would receive from him at church. He set just a few pews in front of me and I can’t remember a time that he didn’t turn around and speak or get up an come to me for that hand shake. His song voice and teaching will greatly be missed as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. 🙏❤️

    1. Gerri,
Thank you for your kind thoughts, and especially for your prayers. It is a comforting to hear from many how Dad helped in their spiritual walk with God. We love his favorite hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”, because it is the song that Dad felt expressed the message he wanted to leave with his family and friends when he passed. Love, Mike, Lisa and Helen

    1. Thank you Beth, Don and Jimmie. We appreciate your comments. Dad loved you all, and I have faith that he, your Mom and many others are having a joyous reunion in Paradise. Dad had a lot of faith in what the Bible teaches about the moment of death and what occurs after death. He has now experienced the joy of it, and he walks by sight. “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Love, Mike, Lisa and Helen
