Janice Mae Ross Blevins

Janice Mae Ross Blevins, 80, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Saturday, April 2nd at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:30pm Sunday, April 10th at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Zachary Johnson officiating.  Janice was born December 23, 1941, in Kenova, W.Va., a daughter of the late Helen Pauline Cantrell Ross Helms and Taylor “T-Bones” Ross. After their divorce, Janice was raised by Taylor’s parents, William J. Ross, and Mary Elizabeth Frasher Ross and Taylor’s sister, Vicy Jane Ross who was more like a mother to her. They all preceded her in death. Janice was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy George Blevins, daughter Kimberly Ann Blevins, and a special cousin, Sandra Davis, who was more like a sister to her.  Janice graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School and was a member of First Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Kenova. She delivered newspapers for the Herald Dispatch for many years and worked for WCCSO. Janice enjoyed cooking, making candy, sewing, and making crafts. She was very creative. She also enjoyed plants and growing flowers.  Janice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Kendrick (Marc) Blevins, her beloved granddaughter Kelsey Blevins, and her constant companion, her lovingly spoiled cat, Boy. Also surviving are sisters Sharon Spears (Lenny), Brenda Daniels (Ernie), Joyce Ekers (Walter), Vanessa “Neacie” Marks (Harry), Connie Poston (Tony), Debbie (Nelson) Roller, Bobby Dale Helms (Lora), Daryl Helms (Connie), Bernie Helms, Barron “Dutchie” Helms, Brian Helms (Cathy), several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.  Janice loved her family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed talking and visiting with them. She had faith in The Lord and although we miss her very much, we know she is in a better place.  Friends may come one hour before the service Sunday, April 10th, 2022, at Rollins Funeral Home.

Walter Robert Sansom

Walter Robert Sansom, 92, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, WV at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Larsen officiating. The Honor Guard of VFW Post 6878 of Proctorville, OH will conduct military graveside rites at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington. Walter was born on January 3, 1930 in Cabell County, WV to J.D. Sansom and Jennie E. Williams Sansom. He attended Barboursville High School. He was a graduate of Huntington Business School majoring in accounting. He was awarded a diploma from Bob Dale Institute of Personal Development. He was a member of the U.S. Navy where he served a total of six years, six months, and eighteen days both active and inactive duty. Walter was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served as a radioman-Morris Code on the U.S.S. Hanson and the U.S.S. Keppler. He was awarded a campaign ribbon or medal, Navy Occupation Medal of Occupation-Europe. During the Korean Conflict he was stationed in the U.S. Naval Training Station at Newport, Rhode Island, as a Personnel Man Third Rank. Walter was a graduate of Federal Aviation Agency of Huntington Airport, Inc. as a private pilot. He became the Commander of the Huntington Civil Air Patrol Unit for several years. Walter joined Chapman Printing Co. in May of 1969 serving as an estimator and customer service representative. He came from Standard Printing Company where he worked for 13 years. In his 31 years with Chapman Printing and later Champion Industries he served in the capacity of estimator, customer service, and binding and production supervisor. Later he served as Marshall Reynolds agent performing onsite evaluations of plants being pursued for acquisition. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed dancing with the clogging group, The Yellow Rockers and Paw Taws Round and Square Dance Clubs. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma Jean Hill; four sisters; one brother and grandson, Nicholas McClanahan. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Marion Hatten Sansom; daughter, Brenda (Stephen) McClanahan of South Point, OH; granddaughter, Adrienne Gillette and great grandchildren, Marleigh, Mirabel and Renik Gillette of South Point. Additional survivors are his stepchildren, Shaun (Deborah) Dean of Lavalette, WV and the families of their children, Jacob (Angie) Dean, Luke (Stephanie) Dean and Randie (Javey) Vance. His stepdaughter, Jinah (Robert) Cook of Scott Depot, WV and their sons, Tyler and Ryan Cook. He is also survived by several cousins and very special friends, Larry Moore, Josh Wyner, Norman and Fern Allred, Jim Thornton and Juanita Meadows. The family wishes to thank Dr. A. Butt, the nursing staff of Telemetry II unit at St. Mary’s and the Wyngate at Barboursville, WV for their loving care. Pallbearers will be Doug Vance, Don Browning, Mark Cole, Scott Prichard, Greg Adkins and Larry Moore who were all co-workers with Walter at Chapman Printing. Visitation will be two hours before the service, 11:00 to 1:00 at Rollins Funeral Home. The family requests you observe CDC guidelines and wear a mask and observe social distancing. Flowers would be accepted and appreciated or you may contribute to the food pantry at New Baptist Church in Huntington where Walter volunteered his time. Carrie Lynne Heaberlin McGuire

Carrie Lynne Heaberlin McGuire, 71, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Eddie Gandy officiating. Interment will follow in Dock’s Creek Cemetery. Carrie was born November 11, 1950, in Morgantown, W.Va. a daughter of the late Leonard and Eula McGlone Heaberlin. She attended Ceredo-Kenova High School, she was a former Phlebotomist with LabCorp and she was a member of the Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church. James Walter Luther, Sr

James Walter Luther, Sr., 69, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Graveside service will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2022 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Hay officiating. He was born June 27, 1952, in Logan County, W.Va. a son of the late Adrian and Edna Parsons Luther. He was a heavy equipment operator and gravedigger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Steve Smith and John David. He is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia Blankenship Luther; three sons John, James, Jr. and Kevin; one daughter Sara; four grandchildren Izak, Wade, James D. and Hannah. He is also survived by five brothers Frank (Gail), Monroe, Wayne, Allen and Scott and two sisters Barbara Walters and Lois Luther. There will be no visitation and no procession to the cemetery. Delphia Mae Wells

Delphia Mae Wells, 77, of Huntington, W.Va. went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Heritage Center. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Delphia was born August 11, 1944, in Huntington a daughter of the late Ernie Davis and the late Rosie Crum Davis Bloss. She was a member of the Waverly Road Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Arnold Wells; two daughters Lisa D. Wells and Rose Ann Wells; son-in-law Steve Ellis; two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law James O. Wells (Sherry), David R. Wells (Stephanie) and Mark A. Linda Lou Adkins Walters

Linda Lou Adkins Walters, 70, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022 her residence.  Linda was born June 22, 1951, in East Lynn, W.Va. a daughter of the late Anthony “AJ” Jennings and Lucille Tabor Adkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Anthony Jennings “Ron” Adkins, Jr. and Darrell Adkins.  She is survived by her beloved husband John Franklin Walters; one son Daniel Lee Walters; one brother Dennis Adkins and three sisters Brenda Adkins (Robert), Mary Armstead (Patrick) and Sherry Bryant. Delbert Drown, III

Delbert Drown, III, 67, of Ceredo, W.Va. passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Graveside service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Dock’s Creek Cemetery with the American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard officiating. Delbert was born April 27, 1954, in Huntington a son of the late Delbert Drown, Jr. and the late Gloria Small Drown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lula Mae “Lulu” Sharp and a brother John Wesley Drown. He is survived by three brothers and a sister-in-law Jeff Drown (Donna), Robert Drown and Davey Drown; two sisters and brothers-in-law Linda Richards (Fred) and Dorothy Mount (Gary) and a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends. Kenneth Michael Gray

Kenneth Michael Gray, 72, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away at his home on March 7, 2022.  Mike was born in Cambridge, Ohio, the son of the late Kenneth and Erie Gray.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Scott Gray of Ashland; his son Nathaniel  Ryan “Nat”Gray and his wife Melissa; Abigail Foster Gray, his only granddaughter; and two grandsons Caleb and Carter Gray.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Gray.

Mike was a graduate of Ceredo Kenova High School, Class of ‘67 and earned both Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Elementary Education  from Marshall University.  He served 37 years in Wayne County Schools teaching at Prichard, Wayne, Kenova, and Kellogg Elementaries, and CK Middle School.  Mike really enjoyed coaching the CK High School Girls’ basketball team and took particular pride in their successful season when they played in the state tournament.   He always enjoyed catching up with former students and took great pride in the good people they had become.

Mike was a devoted father to his son, Nat.  In Nat’s younger years they were always together fishing, running, & camping.   Five of the most enjoyable years were watching  Nat be Center/Nose Guard for CK Wonders Football Team.

After retirement he enjoyed coaching the Dodgers Little League team at Fraley Field. Mike was devoted to his family and the best part of his life was being a “Grumpsy”  to his grandbabies.  Whether he was playing tea party with his granddaughter or pirates on the beach with his grandsons it was his favorite thing to do as long as they were there.  Later you could find him in the stands at Boyd County watching his grandsons play ball or at the Ashland YMCA pool watching his granddaughter compete.

Margaret Lee Copley Gilliam

Margaret Lee Copley Gilliam, 88, of Kenova, WV. passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Thursday, March 3, 2022 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, WV. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. She was retired from Wal Mart in South Point with 21 years of service. She was born September 10, 1933 in Kenova, WV. daughter of the late Clarence P. and Gladys Johnson Copley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her by husband Glen Gilliam. She is survived by her children Steve Gilliam (Mary), Mark Gilliam (Mary), Lisa Campbell and Lori Duty (Mark); grandchildren Kelli, Shaun, Sean, Zach, Andi, Ryan, Amy, Amanda, Kelly and Kyle and 14 great-grandchildren and a loving caregiver Trish Simpson.
