Spry, Terry R “Topper”

Terry Ray “Topper” Spry,67, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Saturday November 6, 2021 at England Hill Freewill Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Pastor Willie May and Pastor Justin May officiating. Interment will follow in Cyrus Cemetery. He was born September 30, 1954 in Huntington, WV. a son of Donna Jean Staley Spry May and the late Warnie G. Spry. Topper was a graduate of Buffalo High School and a retired Supervisor from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #60 AF & AM whose members will conduct graveside services. In addition to his father he was preceded by his step-father Ralph May; maternal-grandparents Herma and Ray Staley and paternal grand-parents Martha and Ira Spry. In addition to his precious mother he is survived by his beloved wife Ellen Elaine Dabney Spry; son Warren “Flattop” Spry (Maranda); daughter Paula Spry Moore (Joey); brother Warren “Bossy” Spry (Barbie); sisters Herma Lynn Davis (Bill) and Jean Robertson (Bill) and four grand children Madison Spence, Audrey Spry, Colton Moore and J.W. Spry. Topper leaves a host of friends and church family. Topper was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He was a friends, friend. Friends may call from noon – 2:00 P.M. Bailey, Larry W

Larry Wallace Bailey,80, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 in Grayson Caring Hands in Huntington. He was born February 5, 1941 in Huntington, WV. a son of the late Victor and Blanche Fishbach Bailey. Larry was a retired crane operate with the former Inco Alloys Company and a real estate agent.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hester Ellen Nelson Bailey; granddaughter Christina Davis; three brothers Mike, John and Earl and two sisters Pauline and Susan. He is survived by two sons Bryan Bailey and Steve Bailey; grandchildren Evan Bailey, Elizabeth Washington (Kenny), Dakota Chambers and Kyle and Kristian Bailey; great-grandchildren Jett Bailey, Jackson Bailey, Ella Gray Washington and Little Izzy and one sister Eleanor Roach. Fry, Scott A

Scott Allen Fry 40 of Wayne, WV passed away peacefully and received his crown, on October 29 2021. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova WV. Rev. John Fry will be officiating. Internment will follow in Spring Valley memory Gardens.  Scott was born January 5, 1981 in Huntington, WV son of Debbie Fry Howes (Tim Howes). He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents Elza Hurston Fry and Mary Carolyn Hatten Fry. He is survived by his mother, his sister Amber Howes, and brother Matthew Howes. He is also survived by his three uncles Mark Fry of Paris KY, Bryan Fry of Huntington WV, and John Fry of Lavalette WV, His Aunt Beverly Fry Hickman. His cousins, Brittany Hickman White, Logan Hickman, Sahara Fry, Derek Fry, and Drew Fry. Stanley, Carl A.

Carl A. Stanley of Catlettsburg, Ky went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021. He was born May 17, 1950 in Ashland, Ky, a son of the late Earl and Eunice Stanley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Stanley.

He was a veteran and served with the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Morehead State University, and a banker employed by Catlettsburg Savings & Loan and retired from People’s Bank. He served on Catlettsburg City Council for several terms. He was a proud member of the Catlettsburg community where he served on many boards and committees. He was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of God in Huntington, West Virginia, where he served as Financial Officer.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Brumfield Stanley, a son Brent (Mindy) Stanley, and a daughter, Beth (Jack) Hulett of Catlettsburg, 3 grandchildren, Dylan Stanley, and Kendra and Karly Hulett. He is also survived by a brother Ray Stanley (Susan) and several nieces and a nephew, Mike Stanley. Carl was an avid wood worker and enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren, who he adored. He loved watching the girls play softball and motocross with Dylan.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Jefferson Avenue Church of God from 12 noon to 2 pm, funeral to follow visitation. American Legion post 93 will conduct military rights. Kenneth Lloyd,76, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 in King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1945 in Kenova, WV. a son of the late Burgess and Anna Lloyd.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Bert, Ronnie and Tim Lloyd. He is survived by a daughter Alisha Cavanaugh; son Kenneth Lloyd, Jr.; granddaughter Kendra Lloyd; three great-grandchildren; ex-wife Barbara Lloyd; brother Larry Lloyd and sister Ramona McCollister. Wilson Howard “Blackie” Stowers,95, of Ceredo, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in The Sanctuary of The Ohio Valley Nursing Home. Graveside service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 29, 2021 at Dock’s Creek Cemetery Mausoleum with the American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard conducting military rites. Blackie was born January 4, 1926 in Huntington, WV. a son of the late James and Bessie Calhoun Stowers. He was a former Chemist with Ashland Oil, U.S. Navy veteran and an avid golfer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Azile Stowers; son Wilson H. “Blackie” Stowers, Jr.; five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by a daughter-in-law Marcia Stowers. There will be a reception to honor the life of Blackie following the graveside service at the American Legion Post 93 in Kenova. Robert Andrew Gilkerson,79, of Naples, FL. formerly of Pataskala, OH. passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in Naples Community Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with the American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard conducting military rites. Robert was born May 29, 1942 in Kenova, WV. a son of the late Thomas Andrew and Roberta Dillon Gilkerson. He was retired from AT&T with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Ralph R. Rickly Lodge #670 F & AM of Columbus, Ohio and the Shriners. Robert was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corp.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Gilkerson aka Uncle Toy. Chaffins, Cheryl K

Cheryl Kae Chaffins, 50, of Huntington, W.Va. passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.  Cheryl was born February 3, 1971 in Huntington a daughter of the late, Glen Roger Chaffins and Arbutus Harris Chaffins Pardue.  Growing up in the C-K area she attended local schools and graduated from C-K High School with the class of 1989.  After graduation she attended Marshall university where she received her Bachelors Degree.  Cheryl was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority.  She was currently employed as a Personal Banker by City National Bank in Huntington.  Chery was involved with the Salvation Army and served on the board of directors.  She also was supportive of Little Victories Animal Rescue.  Cheryl was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church.  She is survived by her brother, William Lenny (Paula) Chaffins; a sister, Kathy (Steve) Bradach; her step father, David Pardue; her significant other, Ben Branson; her niece, Meghan Chaffins and her nephew, Zackary Chaffins.  She also survived by her four lifelong best friends, Deidre Farley, Meredith Fox, Tina Zimmerman and Tiffany Copenhaver; her cat, Kitties and other family and friends who will greatly miss her.  A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October, 22, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, with Sam Colvin officiating.  Visitation will be two hours before the services and burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Little Victories Animal Rescue.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.rollinsfh.com.

Combs, Timothy E “TT”

Timothy Earl Combs, 50, fondly known as “TT”, of Huntington, WV. passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at his residence.  Tim was born January11, 1971 in Cabell County, WV. a son of the late Earl and Evelyn Skeens Combs. He worked maintenance at the former Spring Valley Country Club.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his niece Christina Davis. Survivors include two sisters Cindy Dickerson (David) and Wanda Chatterton both of Huntington, WV; two half brothers Earl Combs of Guyandotte, WV. and Gregory Davis of Huntington, WV.; three nieces Kelsie Petticrew, Elizabeth Washington (Kenny) and Taylor France; two nephews Brian Chatteron (Tina) and Andrew Petticrew; three great-nieces Ella Washington, Mia Petticrew and Averly Cole; three great-nephews Andrew Petticrew II, Grayson Petticrew and Logan Bailey. Doretta Maxine Dixon Rickman, 91, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wayne, W.Va. She was born in Kenova on February 14, 1930 a daughter of the late Carl Cecil and Georgia Lee Bailey Dixon. She had been employed as a bookkeeper at Union Concrete. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Doretta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Rickman who died in 2003; a brother, Carl Denver Dixon; and nephew, Charles Douglas Dixon. She is survived by a son, Dennis Carlton Taylor; sister-in-law, Sally Dixon; niece, Leah Dixon; great nephews, Taylor (Kimberly) Dixon and Robert (Sarah) Dixon; step nephews, John (Kim) Bayes and Corey Bayes; 8 great great nieces and nephews who all loved her very much. She is also survived by her caregivers, Bill and Herma Lynn Davis. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Booth and Pastor James Asbury officiating.
