William Clyde Coffey, Jr.,78, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020 at his residence. Bill was born November 6, 1941 in Catlettsburg, Ky. a son of the late William Clyde and Julia Virginia Leedy Coffey. He was a former food service salesman and owner of the former Bill Coffey Food Brokerage, Inc. He was a member of the Kenova Masonic Lodge #110 AF & AM. Bill was a Master Mason and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a Shriner Clown and did it for the love he had for the children. Bill was an avid supporter of Marshall Athletics and volunteered at various events to help raise money for the Marshall Speech and Hearing Clinic. He attended the Catlettsburg Harvest Church of God. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Estill Franklin Coffey and Robert Lee Coffey and two wives Janet Skeens Coffey and the mother of his children Bonnie Arthur. Bill is survived by the love of his life of 43 years Peggy Kitchen Coffey; four children Carl Coffey (Barbie), Candie Hamilton (Tim), Kim Boyd (David) and Jim Kitchen (Kimberly); seven grandchildren David, Steven, Josh, Carl Nathan, Jaclyn, Zack and Jacob; five great-grandchildren and one sister JoAnn Rakes (James D.). Sperry, Joel D
Early Easter morning, April 12, 2020 Joel Douglas Sperry’s journey came to an end. It began on March 27, 1952, son of the Late Jay and Helen Sperry. After graduating from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1970, he joined the Marines. He was always proud of being a Marine where he served as a military policeman and drill sergeant. When he left the Marines he managed convenience and grocery stores until he went to Marshall University and received his BA in psychology and philosophy. He received his MA from Marshall University and began a career as a therapist with Prestera, Transitions, River Park and Ramey-Estep where he retired. He was fortunate to meet many friends in his career. Joel had an exceptional musical talent and played many instruments, but his greatest gift was his voice. He continued playing and singing throughout his life. On December 24, 1995 he married his beloved wife Sandie (Sandra Sanford) and they began their journey together. Their love is memorialized by a brick along the walkway of the Ohio River, which says “Sandie and Joel Forever” and they will always be in each other’s heart. Joel is survived by his adoring wife Sandie; stepchildren Darth Coots (Britt), children Cassidy and Canon; Lonique Coots (Cameron), children Reign and Revan. Also surviving are his son Chuck Sperry (Cindy), children Chas, Treyson and Sam; his daughter Jacie Huff (Gary), children Kade and Caelan, daughter Shannon Gibson, and previous son-in-law Jake Gibson and their children Luke and Brenna, sister Jaylen Rowe (Bruce); nieces Dani Kelly and Lakin McCann; great nieces and nephews Emma, Jaxon and Jayden Kelly and Finley and Judah McCann, aunts and uncles Genevieve Thompson, Joyce Copley (Tom), Rita Myers and Doug Sperry. Joel loved his dogs; they were his best friends and serenity. He will be sorely missed by his loyal companions Bella, Jaxon and Layla (who he called Pookie). Joseph Roy Plybon, 35, of Huntington, W.Va. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his home. He was born January 10, 1985 to the late, Geneva Gene Plybon. He graduated from Huntington High School. He was employed by Service Master. When Joey was four years old he started martial arts and eventually earned a 5th degree black belt. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mabel A. Plybon. Survivors include his daughter, Lakayla Paige Ross; Amy Ross her mother; three brothers, Todd (Sara) Maynard, Chad Maynard and Shawn Brammer; two sisters, Kayla Maynard and Annika (Ryan) Turvey; his uncle and godfather, Donald Tripplett; uncle, Mike (Christa) Plybon, aunts, Billie Lynn Young and Linda Brammer. Ruth Ann Fisher,77, of Ceredo, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. Interment will follow in the Newman-Ferguson and Hatten Cemetery. Ann was born July 16, 1942 in Ceredo, W.Va. a daughter of the late Russell and Louise Masterson. She was a retired plywood mill worker from Jaype Mill and was a member of the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church and the Pierce Lutheran Church Pierce, Idaho. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers James Clayton Masterson and Raymond Masterson and one sister Wilda Walls. She is survived by four children Wally Billups, Tedd Billups, Russell Fisher and Madra Fisher; one sister Ruby Beckley; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ALICE RUTH COX HITCHCOCK, 90, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Kenova Church of God, of which she had been a member for 70 years and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiallary. Bishop Paul Cantrell will officiate the service. Ruth was born February 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Lucian and Marie Spaulding Cox. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and was also a seamstress who loved to quilt. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Raymond C. Hitchcock, her son Donald Gene Lester and one brother, Gerald Cox. She is survived by her sister Lois Perchan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki (Robert Scott) Haynie and Linda (Steve) Fouch; one step-son, Darrell Hitchcock; two sisters-in-law, Ann Cox and Ronnie (Charles) Cantrell; four granddaughters, Alice, Angel, Sarah and Donese; three grandsons, Scott, Nathaniel and Josh; 14 great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren and a special nephew and his wife, Bill and Louise Weddington. He is survived by his wife of 21 years Teresa, I daughter Crystal Gravely, 2 sons Jerry Adkins, Kermit Adkins, 2 sisters Betty (Terry) Sands, Cathy Galligher, 7 brothers John (Patty) France, Pete (Vonnie) France, Bobby (Vicky) Hamlin, Jerry Hamlin, Gary Gene (Joyce) France and Ben France. He is also survived by 8 grandkids, 10 great-grandkids, 2 step daughters Glenda Hughes, Brenda Gardner, 1 stepson Dustin Shortt, one very special friend Bill Fields and his 4 legged buddy Smokey. Jerry was a Purple Heart recipient having served in Vietnam and he was a retired carpenter and refuse owner. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He now rest high on that mountain. Hattie V. Bean, 99, of Prichard, W.Va. passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wayne, W.Va. Hattie was born May 8, 1920 in Wayne County a daughter of the late, Henry and Nellie Frasher Bean. She had worked as an inspector for Barefoot Sole. In addition to her parents she was preceded by two sisters, Dorothy Hooser and Bernice Bean Maynard and three brothers, John Bean, Harold Bean and Billy Bean. She is survived by one sister, Eva Bean of Prichard and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. Edwin Lee Layman, 61, of Kenova, W.Va. husband of the late Kim McCormick Layman, died Friday, February 14, 2020 at CMAC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, W.Va. Ed was born May 24, 1958 in Clarksburg, W.Va. a son of the late, Ron and Ruth Merryman Layman. He retired from the State of West Virginia Department of Highways where he worked as a traffic engineer. Ed was past president of the C-K Autumnfest for the last ten years. He was on the Wayne County Fair Board and was a member of the City of Kenova Park Board. Ed was a musician playing music for over 40 years. He is survived by two sons, Robert Edwin (Danielle) Layman and David Bruce Layman; his grandchildren, Bryce, David, Brandy, and Dylan Layman, Kyla Korzun and Jenna.
