Charles William “Charlie” Slover

Charles William “Charlie” Slover, 101, passed away on March 15, 2025, in Huntington, West Virginia. Born on February 13, 1924, in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He loved his family and God. His passion was to share his favorite song “Just as I Am.” He was an amazing spiritual witness up to his final days.

Charles proudly served his country in World War II as a Private First Class Medical Tech in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was stationed in France, Belgium, and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star for his courage and heroic service in military action. Following his military service, Charles worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years. In addition to his spiritual work, Charles found joy in woodworking. He crafted “Jesus Fish” and crosses as part of his witnessing efforts, using his talents to spread messages of faith and encouragement.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Jo Cochran Slover; his parents, Charles and Jessie Slover; his sister Aileen Ballinger; his son David Slover; and grandson Shawn Pirri.

He is survived by his daughters Teresa Chaffins (Robert), Rhonda Barker (Ron), and Kathy Pirri (John) and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Slover. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Elizabeth Darcy, Brad Slover, Mike Chaffins, Kristi Jones, Dr. Tamra Aman, Kevin Simpson, Tiffany Lockhart, and Amanda Pirri; as well as great-grandchildren Dr. Hannah Andresen, Joe Darcy III, Mark Slover, Emma Slover, Clay Chaffins, McKenzie Chaffins, Ashley Hall, Lake Jones, Cameron Jones, Aiden Simpson, Chloe Simpson, Kylie Simpson, Sarah Aman, Thomas Aman, Joseph Aman, Lily Lockhart, and Everly Lockhart.

Family and friends are invited to honor Charles’s life at Locust Grove Baptist Church, 2888 WV Route 75, Huntington. Visitation will be held on March 21, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on March 22 at the same location at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville.   3. I truly loved the very essence of the soul , spirit, courage, and true dedication of this man and his family. Our family’s lives have intertwined thru the years, always in love and support of each other. It has been a true honor knowing this amazing man and his family. I should know enough about loss to know that you never stop missing someone you love….you learn how to dance in the rain with their memories in your heart and soul.

  4. My condolences to Charlie’s family. I will always remember “My” Charlie. I would always make sure his “Record” player was on. He was a special man. He sure loved the Lord. I know he is resting peacefully.
