James Richard “Rick” Preston, age 74, passed suddenly at his home in Prichard, WV on January 23, 2023.
Rick was born on April 13, 1948 in Kenova, WV. In his youth, he was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, WV. He spent his working years as a meat department manager at grocery stores in Fairmont, Morgantown and Huntington, WV. He was a master gardener and wise philosopher.
He is survived by his loving partner, Vida Fields, two step-daughters, Sherry Rodriguez and Rhonda Schell, friend, Ernie Torreblanco and their families. He is further survived by his parents, Richard and Thelma Preston, sisters Karen Rodgers-Rojay, Tammy (Bob) Wells, and Peggy Tiller, six nephews, two nieces, two grand-nephews, his former wife, Linda Vincent-Preston and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his precious sons, Joshua and Michael Preston, and brother-in-law, David Rojay.
Viewing will be on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 11-1 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, WV. Loved ones will then gather at the Ceredo-Kenova Community Center at 1200 Poplar St., Kenova, WV from 12-5.
Our deepest condolences, Vida, to you and the entire Preston family. Rick was truly one of the best friends I have ever had or will ever have, we could go for days, weeks, or years and not communicate but with just a few words pick up on the last conversation like no time had been lost. The kind gentle soul that we came to know will live on and stay with all the rest of our lives. Go rest high on that mountain my Brother!
I knew Ricky as a childhood friend in Fairmont WV when he lived on Field St. He lived in a very loving home and I always enjoyed going there. He was an avid wiffle ball player on Ridgely Ave and in the Gump’s backyard. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
