Marsha Louise Stewart (Thompson), 70, of Huntington, peacefully passed away on Tuesday March 9th, 2021 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill Stewart, her parents Felix and Mary Thompson, and her brother Larry Thompson. Mary Tienken Daniels, 78, of Wayne, WV. passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Centerville Baptist Church, of which she was a member with her son Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Riggs Family Cemetery. She was born July 26, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. a daughter of the late Clarence and Agatha Tienken. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Paul M. Daniels and siblings Clarence, William, Theodore, Joseph, Agatha, Lillian and Deborah. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law Sharon Seitz (Rocky); one son and daughter-in-law Paul E. James “Jim” William McCallister, 83, of Kenova, WV went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 12, 2021 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 15, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home Kenova with his son Pastor John McCallister officiating. Jim was born January 18, 1938 son of the late James Travis and Mabel McCallister. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Betty Nelson, a brother Donald McCallister, and daughter-in-law Sheree McCallister(Jimmy).
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Katie McCallister; three sons and two daughters-in-law James Edward McCallister of Gastonia, NC, David Alan McCallister (Rose) of Kenova, and John Drew McCallister (Sherrie) of Fort Wayne, IN and one daughter Jane Ann McCallister Kennedy of Charleston, WV. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law Mickey McCallister Standring (David) of San Bernardino, CA.
Jim and Katie adorned their family which included 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren: James Lewis McCallister (Laura) of Bozeman, MT, Trent McCallister (Ashley) , Colin, Wells and Lennon of Belmont, NC: Amy McCallister Ethel (JR), Aiden, Nathen and Shelby of Ashland, KY; David Cameron McCallister (Sarah) and son Joey of Knoxville, TN; Tara McCallister Campioni (Jon), and daughters Hannah and Emily of Ceredo, Brandon Irby of Louisville, KY and Raleigh Morris of Kenova; and Victoria McCallister, Brianna McCallister, Silas McCallister, Beckett McCallister of Fort Wayne, IN. A special note of thanks to grandson Justin Kennedy of Charleston, WV who was so dedicated in the care and love of his grandfather during his illness;
Jim was also proceeded in Death by his close cousins Bert and Ronnie Lloyd of Huntington. He is survived by cousin Romona McCollister of Rock Hill, OH. These cousins were like brothers and sisters to Jim throughout their lives.
Jim’s faith and leadership in the community was a reflection of his love of friends and community. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova. He was a former Lay Chaplain for the Huntington City Mission and also volunteered with the Good Samaritan Center of Kenova. Jim also was a member of the Masonic Lodge 110.
Additionally Jim was a servant leader in the community serving as a Kenova City Councilman and was a former Wayne County Board of Education member.
Jim was an avid fisherman and shared this love with many friends over the years. He volunteered in many capacities involving sports including as former President of the CK Baseball Little League and numerous coaching roles. Jim also was a Board Member of the C-K War Memorial Community Center.
The family is so thankful to the caregivers over the recent years who served Jim and cared for him.

Ronald Ted Rakes,86, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with his Savior Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 8, 2021 at Kenova United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Richards and Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Interment with masonic rites will be conducted at Dock’s Creek Cemetery. Ted was born January 30, 1935 in Huntington a son of the late Pete and Virginia Wilson Rakes. Ted spent many terms as a councilman for the City of Kenova and was a tireless worker devoted to the best interests of the city. He was a volunteer for many years at Cabell Huntington Hospital providing words of encouragement, humor and prayers to those in need. Ted had an Insurance and Income Tax business in Kenova for several years. He was a devoted member of the Kenova United Methodist Church and devoted brother in the Kenova Masonic Lodge #110 AF & AM where he was the lodge secretary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Betty Lorine Barry Rakes; son Jeff Rakes; brothers Willie, Ray and Elza Rakes and son-in-law Terry Methax. Survivors include his children Debbie Rakes Methax and Scott Rakes (Tonya); four grandchildren Jimmy Methax (Lisa), Jamey Methax Holt, Zachery Rakes and Isaac Rakes; great-grandchildren Bailey Swanson, Mackenzie Methax, Joshua Methax; daughter-in-law Stacie Rakes; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. Cynthia Jean Sayre Bailey,82, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at her residence. She was born September 13, 1938 in Huntington a daughter of the late Robert L. and Hazel Scarberry Sayre. She was a member of the Ceredo Church of Christ, the Red Hat Society and worked with Wayne County Special Olympics for years. He was born December 10, 1942 in Prichard a son of the late Standard and Mary Davis Gilkerson. Ed was a retired Foreman from ACF Industries and he was a member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #60 AF & AM whose members will conduct graveside rites. He was a veteran having served his country in the U. S. Air Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother James Bernard Gilkerson; two daughters Paula Gilkerson and Susie Charles; one son Gary Dean and a grandson Matt Charles. Sue Ellen Teach Gillem, 80, of Kenova, W.V. passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born October 31, 1940 in Springfield, OH. and grew up in Happy Hollow, Kenova, WV; daughter of the late Opal Riggs Plyburn and her late step-father Pearley Plyburn and the late Martin Teach. Sue was a 1958 graduate of C-K High School and a 1963 graduate of the King’s Daughters School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse for 43 years, having worked in Huntington, WV, Clearwater, FL, and Greenville, SC and retired from King’s Daughters Medical Center. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a step-brother William “Bill” Plyburn. Survivors include a son Robert Travis and daughter Karen Teach. The family would like to thank CHH Home Care Medicine and St. Mary’s Home Health and all of their staff that cared for their mother. At her request there will be no public services. Betty left this world and all its physical pain and sorrows to claim her heavenly reward with her LORD Jesus on February 16, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born in October of 1929 to the late Everett and Birdie Noble in Wayne County WV. She was the salutatorian graduate of the 1946 class Buffalo (Wayne) High School. After high school Betty began to establish her life based on two simple principles faith and family. Nelson, Lewis Jr.
Lewis Nelson, Jr.,71, of Huntington, W.V. passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his residence. He was born June 25, 1949 in Cabell County son of the late Lewis Nelson Sr. and late Mary Eloise Marcum Nelson. Lewis was a mold maker with Owens-Illinois and retired from the Wayne County Board of Education. He was a member of the Prichard United Baptist Church and help coach Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 50 years Virginia Jenny McGown Nelson; three sons and daughters-in-law Darron Andrew Nelson (Kathy), Brad William Nelson (Julie) and Evan Lewis Nelson (Kyla); four grandchildren Andrea Riley Nelson, Garrett Cole Nelson, Parker Lewis Nelson and Piper Renee Nelson and four special care givers Sherman McGown, II, Burman Allen Nelson, Tanner Adkins and Sarah Jude. Timothy Lee McKenzie, 66 of Ceredo, WV passed away February 18, 2021. He was a son of the late Bob and Maxine McKenzie who lived in both the Ceredo and Kenova communities. Tim graduated from C-K High School. He is survived by his brother, Robert Jack Marks and his sister, AlyceLynn North. Due to the current COVID-19 conditions and restrictions there will be a private family service at a later date.
