Berlin Ray Meredith, Sr

Berlin Ray Meredith, Sr., 86, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025 surrounded by family at his home. He was born April 7, 1938 in Hubbardstown, W.Va., a son of the late Benjamin Columbus Meredith, Sr. and Nellie Leatrice Bellomy Meredith. Berlin served in the U.S. Army in 1961 through 1963. The Military Honor Guard of Post 93 Kenova will conduct graveside rites. He was accomplished in many things and had many interests in his life. He could create almost anything and enjoyed the challenge of his latest project. He enjoyed singing and was active in many service organizations including, The Grand Lodge of WV, A.E. & A.M.; Kenova Masonic Lodge #110 A.F. & A.M. whose members will perform graveside services; The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Supreme Council 33 degree-Southern Jurisdiction ISA; Beni Kedem; and Valley of Huntington Orient of West Virginia. Above all Berlin loved his God and his family. He loved spending time with them whenever possible and enjoyed a closer relationship with his oldest son, Berlin II. after the loss of his wife Carol and son, Brian during the Covid 19 epidemic. He was a good storyteller and enjoyed a good laugh. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Sue Hayton Meredith; son, Brian Keith Meredith; and sisters, Dolores Smith and Pamela Meredith. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Berlin Ray Meredith II. and Kathy; brother, Ben Meredith, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; two grandsons, Joshua Meredith and his partner, Jeremy Pasha and Keenan Meredith and his wife, Karison; and coming soon a special great granddaughter; his best friend, Champ, one very special adopted daughter, Tina Sarver and nieces and nephews, Angie, Trey, Gabby, Dana and Jason. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 14. 2025 at the Kenova United Methodist Church with Pastor Andrew Tennant officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Glenn Elwood Vance

Glenn Elwood Vance,82, of Huntington, WV., passed away Monday, March 9, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted 4:00 P.M. Friday March 14, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Tennant officiating. Glenn was born June 17, 1942 in Wayne, WV. a son of the late Pat Smith and Nettie Vance. Sylvia Carolyn Blankenship Luther

Sylvia Carolyn Blankenship Luther, 70, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at her residence. Graveside service will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Hay officiating. Sylvia was born June 11, 1954, in Wayne, W.Va. a daughter of the late Hiram and Thelma Gladys Lockhart Blankenship. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Walter Luther, Sr. and nine siblings. She is survived by her beloved two sons James, Jr. and Kevin Luther, four grandchildren Izak, Wade, James D. and Hannah; one brother Ellis Blankenship and two sisters Sue Dierdorf and Ethel Irene Artrip. Carol “Ruth” Settle Thompson

Carol “Ruth” Settle Thompson, 94, died peacefully March 2nd, 2025 with family and caregivers by her side at Wyngate at Rivers Edge in Proctorville, Ohio.

Ruth was born April 3, 1930, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Samuel Britton Settle and LaVantia Pearl Elliot Settle.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Reverend Charles E Thompson, her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George W Thompson, her sisters, June Elise Edwards and Mary Virginia “Ginnie” Lowther, and her brother-in-law, James R Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki C Lycan, her son C. David Thompson (Tammy), granddaughter LyRonda M Ventura, grandsons Kyle A. Thompson (Courtney) and Dustin R Meadows, great-grandsons Charles Ventura, Elian Ventura and Donovan A. Meadows, brother-in-law Reverend Dewayne R. Lowther, nieces Paula V McGrew, Sarah V. Hensley, Mary Catherine Perkins, Kathi Lowery, and nephew Samuel Edwardsand their families. Her loving cat, Precious, was by her side for her entire stay at Wyngate. Robin Dale Midkiff

Robin Dale Midkiff, 50, of Huntington, WV., passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at his residence. Memorial service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 28, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Morrello officiating. Robin was born January 15, 1975 in West Hamlin, WV. a son of Earnest and Caroline Hall Midkiff. Sherry Lynn Smithers, 70, of Huntington, WV. passed away Friday, February 7, 2025 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sherry was born February 10, 1954 in Huntington, WV. a daughter of Jacqueline Sue Casey Smith and the late Larry Glenn Smith. Thomas Eugene Robinson

Thomas Eugene Robinson, 59 of Huntington WV, born February 17th, 1965, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 at Rollins Funeral Home. With Pastor Dylan Mckneely officiating and best friend Deadra Romans speaking. Burial will follow into Plybon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-1 at the funeral home. Eugene is survived by his loving wife Carrie Robinson of 32 years. His mother Ruth Robinson. His two daughter’s: Sarah (Rodney) Blackshire, and Anna (Matthew) Tomblin, his two bonus daughter’s Mariah Henderson and Briana Ross, and bonus son Leroy Campbell. He treasured all his grandbabies: Zoey Blackshire, Matthew Tomblin, Skyler Blackshire, Mckenna Tomblin, Miracle Tomblin, Titus Eugene Blackshire, Kiyahna Luckett, and Steven Luckett. His four sister’s: Teresa (Marshall) Nelson, Selena Adkins, Ambrea (Steve) Luckett, Tammy Bostic and bonus sister’s Rhonda Sellards and Jean Clay. 17 nieces and nephews, and 31 great nieces and nephews. Friends to numerous to mention. He is preceded in death by his father Hubert Robinson, Mother-in-law Shirley Hargis and two grandbabies. 

Frankie Carol McKinney

Frankie Carol McKinney, 77, Kenova, WV., passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Frankie was born August 23, 1947 in Charleston, WV. a daughter of the late Frank C. and Florence Legleitner Maurer. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy McKinney; two cherished sons Ricky McKinney and Tracey McKinney and precious sister Charlotte Anne Warren. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Shawn McKinney (Monique); five grandchildren Shannon, Shea, Skar’ra, Sor’ryn and Samuel; three great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Leia and Teddy; daughter-in-law Lynn McKinney; sister Sharon Maurer and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen Faye Hatten

Helen Faye Hatten (née Thacker), 93, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, in Westerville, Ohio, after a short illness. Born on April 28, 1931, in Shoals, West Virginia, she lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends.

Helen was a graduate of Buffalo High School and carried a deep sense of compassion throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of Kenova United Methodist Church, where her faith guided her actions and relationships. Known for her generous spirit and unwavering support for those around her, Helen was a friend and helper to all who knew her.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, finding immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. Helen also shared an extraordinary lifelong friendship with Joyce Adkins (née Taylor), a bond that spanned an incredible 87 years.Special thanks to Debby and Fox Heaberlin and Tammy Warren Salmons for their friendship and care.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Virgil C. Thacker; her two brothers, Kenneth Thacker and Ronald Thacker, and her beloved husbands, Mendel L. Hatten and Selton (Scott) Stevens.

She is survived by her loving sister, Barbara Edens; her children: Lynn Gilbert Thomas, Toni Donahue (Andrew), Patricia Buckley (Paul), and Jon Hatten (Donna); as well as her stepchildren: Jeannine Gaunce (Bud) and David Hatten (Sandra). She leaves behind six grandchildren (Rebecca, Jason, Marisa, Erin, Ryan and Christopher) and seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. She had a special fondness for Scott’s son David and his wife Jeanne and their children. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her warmth, generosity and acceptance.

A service to honor Helen’s life will be held on February 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Kenova United Methodist Church, located at 503 15th Street in Kenova, West Virginia. Burial immediately following in Docks Creek Cemetery.

Sarah Ruth (Sally) Sayre Dixon

Sarah Ruth (Sally) Sayre Dixon., 90, of Elizabethtown, Ky. passed away Thursday February 6, 2025 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. She was born June 7, 1934 in Kenova, West Virginia to Edwin A. and Gladys Griffith Sayre. She was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School class of 1951. She began her working career at Ceredo National Bank which is now United Bank. She married Carl Denver Dixon and shortly thereafter they moved to Tewksbury, MA. where she worked for the Shanklin Corporation until her retirement. After retirement they moved to Elizabethtown, Ky. She and her husband Denver enjoyed showing and breeding Schnauzer dogs as well as traveling. She loved helping people, and attended Rineyville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl Denver Dixon; son Charles Douglas Dixon; son Carl Edwin Dixon; son Tommy Lee Dixon and a brother Edwin A. (Nunney) Sayre, Jr. She is survived by her loving daughter-in-law Leah Dixon of Frankfort, KY. Her grandchildren Taylor (Kimberly) Dixon of Rineyville, KY, Robert (Sarah) Dixon of Dayton, OH, John (Kim) Bayes of Frankfort, KY, Corey (Chelsea) Bayes of Frankfort, KY and eight great-grandchildren, Riley, Mckenzie, Taylor, Kazi, Sophie, Sadie, Ben and Nathen. Sarah also had several surrogate children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who came into her life or grew up knowing her and loving her dearly. She also had her special friends Bonnie and Dennis Mousser and Peter and Lynn Wunderli and family. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M.
